Leading team always lets the opponent come back! HELP!

Thu Jan 31, 2008 6:58 am

Whenever I play a game and the opponent leads, the opponent almost stops to play and allows me to come back. for example in one game the score was 37-46 and then the CPU missed almost every shot and had huge holes in the defense. It's the same in CPU vs.CPU. whenever a team is about to get away, the leading team starts to play terrible until the opponent ties. is there a way to stop this with a mod or in the settings. i deactivated cpu help that is not the problem.

Traditionally the CPU Assistance function does cause problems like that but the game does still have its own comeback logic that allows the trailing team to catch up if they can build momentum. There's not much you can do in a CPU vs CPU contest but when you're playing the CPU it's all about keeping the pressure on and calling a timeout if your opponent starts to build momentum.

ok thanks. But the weird thing in a CPU vs. CPU game is that no team really gains momentum. When a team is about to build a big lead, they suddenly miss almost every shot while the opponent scores from impossible positions. It's if there was some kind of "blocker" in the game that keeps a team from winning clearly.

Even though it's toned down a little in NBA Live 07 compared to some of the things that went on in NBA Live 06, there is still that logic that keeps the score close and the game competitive. A good idea in theory but often very frustrating in practice.

Is it worse in NBA Live 06? Cause most people say that NBA Live 2005 was the last decent NBA Live game.

Tough to say. They're about the same in that regard.

I see. Well, I guess I have to get used to games in which the 90's All-Stars loose 103 - 109 to the Seattle Supersonics :-)

It's possible to overcome the comeback logic but unfortunately it sometimes requires you to indulge in some cheesy play, abusing FSS moves and the like.

you can overcome it?? tell me how!

Fri Feb 08, 2008 8:16 am

I just did; it basically requires you to play fairly cheesily and abuse FSS moves. You'll need to play hard on every possession and pound the ball into the post when you start missing jumpshots. If you like to play as realistically as possible, sometimes you have to throw that out the window at least until you're maintaining a comfortable lead.

OK, thank you. I'll try that.
And is there something you can do in CPU vs. CPU? I know it sounds weird, but I sometimes like to watch the computer play against itself since in Germany we don't get to watch more basketball than the Dirk Nowitzki highlights and I'm a very bad player. And it's really annoying how those CPU vs. CPU games turn out. In about 50 games the highest win was by 7 points. Even when the best teams play against the worst. For example: PHX vs. PHI. That's 95 - 78 team strenght. It always goes like this:"PHX has a 4 point lead and now Steve Nash runs right to the opponents basket after a steal. But of course the lay-up misses since taking a 6 point lead might make the 76ers players cry. Oh and of course now a 3-pointer for the 76ers by their worst player, what a surprise. It was very kind of the Suns to let him shoot without the slightest attempt to block the shot."
It goes like that till it drives me nuts. It is especially annoying because it doesn't matter how strong a team is. The winning team is more or less chosen randomly, since the team which is behind!!!! in the last minutes of the 4th quarter has the advantage, no matter how strong it is. I suppose there is little you can do about this but you seem like someone who knows what he's talking about. Is there a solution to this?

Nothing you can really do in CPU vs CPU. You can't even call plays these days as you once could, which essentially created a de facto Coaching Mode.

I see. Well, thank you for your help and when I wanna watch CPU vs CPU, I guess I have to go back to NBA Live 2001, where that stuff didn't happen.
