Direct connect sucks - extremely choppy

Is it just me, or is the Direct IP terrible? NBA Live's in the past have suffered from this since Direct IP became an option. I have a 3 MBPS DSL connection and my opponent has a cable connection and the gameplay stutters like mad. It is so damned annoying. We're only 60 miles away from each other so the ping should not even be that high.

Why is it that a complex FPS game like Call of Duty can have ultra smooth gameplay with 25 players (some with modem connections) and a cheapass basketball game can't even function smoothly with 2 players on an ultrafast broadband connection?

I don't play online much, but I have found that setting up private games through EASO is generally more stable than Direct IP connections.

it depends
online code is generally terrible
but games are still crystal clear with most players
there are some players with bad connection, always the same (and they have generally a good connection, 2M at least)
