Free Throws

Postby loko_tomas on Wed Nov 22, 2006 10:43 pm

In every Game I play there are at least 2 quarters in which the free throw shooting is strange.

I have to move the left analog stick up instead of down to shot the ball. And it's realy hard to hit them (<60%) in that way. Am I the only one with this problem and can I do anything to change it?

It's only a question of timing.
Move the right analogic stick down and the player will move the ball to his head.
Move the right analogic stick up and the player will release the ball.

Be straight (not to the right or to the left).
And push the right stick up when the ball is near the player's head.

So... down, up, (straight) ...And voila.

(Set slider to 35 is great too)...

Only in two quarters ...huh ?
The last two quarters maybe... You just dont like being under pressure...

I know, but in those 2 quarters per game it's the other way around. I have to move the stick up to start the free throw, and down to release the ball...

In the other quarters it's normal...

Really? It did it for me probably 1/3 of the time, on my freethrows.

it's different if your playing to the right or left

is there any way to turn off free throw shooting weith shoot button, so that both players have to shot with the stick/arrows?

it changes after the half... There isn't such a thing as "at least 2 quarters (indicating it's random)". It's the first and the second half. And I doubt it's a bug and even if it is, it doesn't concern me.

I've not seen that bug either, but now since I learned of it, I'm using the shoot button instead.

I love that you can shoot freethrows with the shoot button instead of the stick. I hate the freethrow minigame ever since I first played live, since it ended up more with the way that no matter how good a shooter I had, or how bad, I always scored. Then came sliders and I loved the situation much more since I had the chance of making it harder for me, but being able to just shoot like any other shot on the court is amazing.

You sure it isn't some issue with your joystick calibration?

Wait, does using the shoot button actually use timing like a jumpshot??? I interpreted the instructions to mean that you just hit button 3 once, and it will go in 90 pct of the time if you are Larry Bird, 50 pct of the time if you are Shaq, etc, regardless of your timing.

You are incorrect here. This is the 2nd post in a row of yours I've read giving out incorrect information. Using the shoot button uses the player's FT rating to determine how frequently it goes in, as was said in every preview for the game, and can be attested to by anybody who's paid attention to that regard through extensive game playing.

Yes that is correct, tested it out and it uses FT rating for freethrows. Which I like since I prefer player shooting depend on their ratings instead of my skill handling some stick.

Just to make sure I have this straight: If I use the shoot button for free throws, I don't have to time the release (because it is based solely on free throw percentage)? In other words, I could just tap it and it would have no affect on the outcome of the shot?

Tapping the button will release the shot based on FT ability, no need to hold it or anything.
