My dynasty has been crashing

Postby joeygraham on Wed Nov 01, 2006 7:24 pm

So I've been manipulating rosters through dbf editing, just playing around. I've managed to add new free agents midseason, make some trades and sign a created free agent. Then, realizing that Chicago was weak at the centre position and with Ben Wallace injured, I signed a free agent centre through dbf editing (it was one of the free agents I added midseason). Now, the game crashes as soon as I sim the next day. I was wondering what I can do. I tried to undo the change I made, but now it is to no avail.

Is my dynasty over so soon?

If you are editing through dbf, always make a backup copy of your save. I believe it is over, unless you made the backup.

A backup does sound like your best bet since it sounds like there's a corruption in the players.dbf file. Which program did you use to edit the dbf?

DB Commander 2000 Pro.
And unfortunately, my dynasty managed to sim/play one day through without crashing and I saved it at this point, so the error is now in my backup file as well.

Doesn't sound like you can fix it if both files are corrupt...

DBC2000 is usually safe so it could just be an invalid value somewhere. Make sure no players on the same team also share the same ROSTERPOS value, and that all the new players have valid entries in both players.dbf and appearance.dbf.

They should be, which is why it is weird. Everything in my limited knowledge is in order. The appearances were put in and the information is all lifted straight from a later version of Jimmy's excellent roster patch.

I'm not sure what to suggest then. If you don't have a backup from before you made the changes you'll probably have to start over.
