Why persevere?

Talk about NBA Live 07 here.

Why persevere?

Postby deus on Wed Oct 25, 2006 1:51 am

Before I start, I have to point out that I'm not hating here, it's a genuine question...

I've seen the post about the problems with NBA Live 07, ones bad enough to stop me from buying the game and I've seen the messages about the leaked beta patch and it got me to thinking...

Live 07 strikes me as being more hassle than it's worth, so why are you guys still sticking with it? Is it because you don't have a games console (and thus access to NBA 2K7), or is it out of loyalty to the series? Is it loyalty to this forum that does it?

For me it's loyalty to the series. I also think that once they patch the sub problem this will be the best Live ever made. I know this might not be the most popular opinion but it's one I subscribe to. I like what they've done with the dynasty with the mock draft etc. I like the in game collisions and the way the game feels when playing it. I think it's an excellent product except for the sub thing, (HUGE problem, some would say even game breaking0 but once they patch I see no need to go anywhere else.

deus, its no console...a computer, which i have anyway paid for in full i have. The only option is Live and i'm a basketball nut. I dont have the 300-400 bucks to buy a Xbox360 or hell even the 130-180 (including the game) to buy a PS2..and also given the option of spending 40 bucks on an NBA game versus spending 200+...which am i gonna do? EA fucked up this year but until 2k starts PC development (which i dont think they will)...we're stuck

i personally like 07, i think the gameplay is fun and I love all the new animations. I still support and play 2003-06 as well, i guess its just a loyalty thing.
Opinions are my own.

They both have their strengths and their weaknesses, but as long as neither one gets a exclusive license both games will be good but if one gets exclusive rights then that will be the end of a good basketball game, just like madden for football and major league 2k6 for baseball those are now pretty crappy series but were stuck with them till their license runs out, but yeah as long as there is competition both will do good so in my opinion i like both games for different reasons.

Fair question, deus. For me, it's being a longtime fan of the series combined with the fact I prefer to the PC for sports gaming since it allows for modding.

For me right now, two reasons.

45€ compared to 1500€ (includes 360, nba2k7 and a tv)

Plus the fact I can stick with a pc game and keep it updated after the newest game has dropped. Not a full-time consolegamer yet.

I do not own an Xbox. I bought 06 last year and really enjoyed the gameplay but was a "little" bit disappointed with Dynasty and really pissed off about the game not saying surnames of created rookies.
When I noticed that this year created rookies would have speech I thought "you beauty" and with the Dynasty updates, I thought, "yes" I have to have 07.
I still love the game and think people are going over the top with the sub bug, last years game subbed obviously , but I still noticed players would sit down for 10 seconds and then come back in anyway (due to their fatigue being under the computers required level) instead of an extended break of say 2-3 minutes.

Earl - 'Hmmm, What were we before we were monkeys?'
Randy - 'I don't know...I don't even remember being a monkey'

A little bit of both... I've started playing since Live 05, and I don't have any of the latest game consoles... The graphics are actually a lot better on my Laptop than if I played Live on a PS2...

I don't(and don't intend to) own a console. That's the onnly reason. I long for the day when 2k7 will start making a PC version. Competition is the key.

it's getting used to playing nba live, call it loyal or whatever. it's like having fun with nba live 98 and getting excited about the new gameplay/ features of nba live 99. seems to it that the more they add new features, more bugs are present.

i really feel that nba live 07 would be the best nba live ever if they fixed those bugs. i feel very lucky to be using pc. console users must be very angry for there could be no patch for them. i feel too bad for the programmers of nba live. imagine them working and expecting a very great game because of great concepts.. but in the end, there's no glory afterall because the fundamentals of the game are left behind.

I haven't bought it yet, but I'm hoping that the patch gets some good reviews in these forums to make it worth getting.

Why am I waiting for Live though? Because the PC is a system that really lets you maximize the game in ways that aren't possible on other systems. if I don't like the way something is, I can modify it. Things taht I'd be powerless to stop on a console in dynasty mode like several players staying as free agents I can go into the file tweak their demands and watch teams actually sign them. If the first round pick is a center gets benched in favor of an undrafted power forward with a far lower rating, I can go in with an editor and switch them. I like having control of my dynasty mode. Not to cheat my way in it, but to make it more realistic.

Another thing the consoles can't provide is this live community and the files and work that they provide for it. I'm not saying this to kiss the people's asses over here or anything it's just the simple truth, what they provide in various files and roster updates helps the game so much. You simply can't get that on other platforms.

Witht hat being the case, Live is the only option on the PC. As such there's at least for me a sort of stubborness involved. I've become spoiled in a way. If I can't edit EVERYTHING about the game to my liking I simply won't bother. I refuse to have it any other way.

Unfortunately that means I don't own a basketball game this year and if this patch doesn't make the game playable, I likely won't for another year.
