Switching freestyle superstar

have u guys actually used this feature alot? i mean i tried too but its waaaay to damn slow. For example, t-mac on the break,hes a shooter, i wanna switch to high-flyer, but the switching alwasy slows down the player and defense catches up. Samething if ur shooting a three, by the time u switch to shooter(especially if ur playing someone like t-mac who has like 7 abilities), the denfense is right in ur face.

Is it as simple as practicing it? cuz i think everything happens so fast so even if u lose half a second the denfense is caught up. I just got the game today, played for a few hours, used tmac, but used him as a highflyer the whole game, lol, didnt even bother switching...
