Last name pronunciation is back!

Wed Sep 27, 2006 6:07 pm

Sweet jesus they finally added the ability for the game to pronounce created player last names that are common to other NBA players. Very happy with that.

Mods, throw this into other threads if you see fit -- don't want to create one-offs for everything but I figured this was a cool kind of 'heads up'.

You little beauty. I hated this in 06.

Andrew confirmed this a while back. Theres also some of the EA producers names thrown in there

I love hearing my last name instead of a number. If a new audio editing program comes out, I will then love hearing my full name. The commentary is incredible this year. I have only heard two phrases from Live 06. It sounds alot like a broadcast. I also noticed that the speech file is ~700 megabytes compared to last years ~250 megabytes.

oh man, I went from thinking this game was like a 9.5/10 to a 5/10 right back up to a 9/10, once those little problems are fixed this game is gonna be sweet. I cant wait to get my hands on a copy. Shannon Brown, I love you... Grant Hill, I love you...

so last name pronunciation makes up for no signature shots and no substitutions, and no less than 82 game seasons?

I think, that with the good points and bad points of the pc version, it is inevitable that EA release a patch. Fixing the substitution glitch HAS to be addressed in order for people to enjoy the finer points of the game. Fixing the lack of post play form the CPU would make this game - along with the subs - one of the greatest if not the greatest game in the franchise.

At least your honest.

For some odd reason I think they will be fixed this time. I have a pretty good feeling that if they continue to ignore us, most of us are going to start ignoring them completely. Like the little boy that cried wolf.

Last name pronunciation being back doesnt 'cancel' the fact that there are really stupid and retarded bugs in Live 07.

good chance they'll be fixed? just like every other year, i guess.

As far as I know nobody said that in this thread...........

Wed Sep 27, 2006 9:39 pm

Oh, I agree entirely that the last name pronunciation doesn't cancel out bugs like the following:

* Point guards scoring 80 points in a game ( so far Raymond Felton, T.J. Ford, Jarrett Jack ) is pretty umm.. not great.

* When you end a matchup and go to 'Quit Game' it literally exits the game *poof*.

There's an entire laundry list of very fixable 'bugs', which never should've left the studio.

It's pretty common practice in the gaming world now to produce a game and then 'finish' them with multiple patches way after release. Of course, that's if you're lucky and there are actual patches. It's a horrible practice, when it is obvious to the average gamer that the game wasn't even finished.

Honestly, I've probably spent my last dime with EA. From a development/technical progression standpoint, it's fairly obvious that the game lacks any real innovation behind it. There are so many things from just a small feature standpoint that would add polish to the game that go untouched year after year. I can't say that I think any basketball games exist on the market that meet the criteria and I think the lack of competition in that area just hurts the gamers.

Anyway, if there's a patch there's a patch... if there isn't, there isn't. I certainly won't be holding my breath, but I will enjoy the last name pronunciation -- something that left the game that shouldn't have.

Madden 07 was good. Worked like it was supposed to without any patches. So did Fifa World Cup 06.

I think that they have the wrong people on the NBA Live team.

Wed Sep 27, 2006 11:29 pm

I thought that they are likely going to release a patch for the PC version this year... and if they do I doubt that they wouldnt fix the "no subs" issue.

Wed Sep 27, 2006 11:42 pm

I didn't get it...if i create a player with surname example: Cyrus...the commentators will say Cyrus?

Thu Sep 28, 2006 2:26 am

if there is a "Cyrus" in the SpeechID Database, yes. if not, no.

Thu Sep 28, 2006 2:31 am

I'm not optimistic about a patch....haven't seen any reason to be.
