Crashing on quit game

Postby stanswx on Wed Sep 27, 2006 12:22 pm

After downloading and installing the game tonight, the game crashes as soon as you hit 'quit game'. Anyone else having this problem? Please let me know, thanks! (will post cpu specs later if that is needed)

I have this problem. Just did a reinstall, to no avail. NBA Live 06 is fine though. Using DVD version. The EAEasyTools or whatever that lists your specs to the requirements show my video card as an unknown compatibility, using nvidia geforce 6600 gt.

OK, this is wierd.

Game resolution: 1024x768x32 MAXIMUM SETTINGS

I was pondering over how come the game will crash. If we quit game, it should go back to the menu screen. The menu screen no matter what game resolution you choose will always be 640x480. So after the game is loaded(after the loading screen), it has to switch from 640x480 to 1024x768. That works. But when we go back to the menu screen, it has to be switching from 1024x768 to 640x480.

The latter switch is the problem which causes the game to crash.

NOW, as I am pondering this, I decided to switch to a lower resolution and see if the game will still crash. I switch to 800x600. Quit game, it returned to menu screen. I switch back to 1024x768, thinking it will crash. Quit game, it returned to menu screen.  Exit game, re-enter the game, play a game, quit the game, back to menu screen. It's solved? The latter settings were still 1024x768 MAX SETTINGS.

Uhm, ppl can try this solution to resolve it...and those that do not have the problem might not be playing at 1024x768?

Please help verify this solution. Thanks! I only tested it once...

I was able to quit a game that was incomplete, no problem. But did you finish a game, and then use quit game? That seems to be where the problem is. I doubt screen resolution has anything to do with it.

1024x768 is still doing the same for me. 640x480 is the only one that isnt.

I would prefer to play at 1600x1200.

The EzInfo shows a questionmark next to my display and the drivers. But I cant rollback drivers because the x1950s arent officially supported in anything older. Rolling back would give me more problems(ive tried.)

Thanks for the sig

I'm having this problem too! Although it's only when I quit game from a season, dynasty, or online game. If I do exhibition, practice, 3pt shootout etc. I don't crash. This is a bad problem considering I just play dynasty in these games.

I have a feeling that EA ported the game with minimal testing. Its like they converted it and made sure the menu's worked and everything, but didn't put time into any possible bugfixing.

Its also ironic that there is a sub glitch that makes it hard to enjoy games and it's crashing after season/dynasty games.

I just finished a game, and yeah, unfortunately, exit game will crash it to desktop... :?

P.S Anyone noticed that there's a back button at the 1st menu screen where u select Play Now etc. which does NOTHING?

I just quit an exhibition game at the half, and it crashed to the desktop. First time thats happened outside a dynasty/season game.

EDIT - Good news(for me) The quit game issue is fixed so far. I uninstalled the game. Then I ended any third party program that was running in the background. I disconnected my network connection, closed my firewall program, closed my antivirus program, closed any mouse or gamepad or soundcard programs, and internet explorer. Then I installed the game. I played a game in my dynasty with no programs in the background like when I installed. After the game, presing quit game took my back to my dynasty. So I saved and quit. Then I restored my internet connection and my antivirus and firewall programs. I even used fraps and played another game without crashing when it was over. I hope this works for everybody.

2nd EDIT - Nevermind. Still crashing. I'm through with this game until the major issues are addressed.

I just played my first online game tonight and after the game, it of course crashed back to windows after hitting Quit Game. Luckily my game's results were recorded online but that's still frustrating. I'm also playing in 1024x768x32. I have a low end ATI 7500 on the old Dell lappy. :)

U gave me life in 2 sec, then took it away from me thereafter. LOL...but kudos to u to closing every other shit there.

Anyone installed this game without anything running? I might try that. I emailed easports on this problem, but the solutions that they gave and I tested, doesn't work.

I will update whenever possible.

Well, I installed the latest 6.9 Cats, Reinstalled Live (im sure it didnt make a difference), and started running in WINDOWS 95 COMPATABILITY MODE. not 2k, 98, or any of that jazz, 95, it should set affinity to 1 if you have a dual core processor, and it should no longer crash after exiting a game, it works for me.

I also upgraded my ati drivers to the 6.7 cats(omega modified). Everytime I finish a game, I alt-tab out of windows and make sure I have closed fraps, ati tray tools, and that my antivirus guard is off. So far I've been able to get back to dynasty mode without crashing using this method.

EnrageD: Could u test with the other windows version options? And what made you derive to this solution? I'm currently in a solution finding session with EA, I could help feedback.

Pdub: How come u have fraps running everytime lol! And, why do you close those and not everything else? Please try to give a reason why you did this to 'resolve' the issue. And like what I told EnrageD, I could feedback to EA.

Apparently drivers are not much of an issue because one of the solutions, they asked me to rollback to an older version of forceware and it's still the same.

Now we have 2 possibilities: Windows Compatibility and Programs running in the background. The latter is harder to determine because everyone runs different programs in the background.

Thanks guys.

I use fraps to record screenshots and videos of the gameplay, why else? I was testing to see why sometimes the game crashes and other times it doesn't. Every time I have done this, it hasn't crashed.

Hey, did you talk to EA about the substitution bug in your session?

I tested Windows 2k Compat mode, Windows XP (since im running x64), Windows 98, and Windows 95.

Windows 95 is the only one that works for me, and its been flawless since the start.
