Exactly what pursuer said... i'm in the process of downloading it from the ea downloader. It's about 3 hour dl with a cable connection. It's like how counterstrike source was released...preload the game.. then you can play on the release date
does anyone know if you get a code or anything to redownload it if something happens to the game? Id really like to just download it, but im affraid of something screwing me over. I dont think i could burn it to a CD-R, probably not enough space.
i read it and it says if you ever erase the game or lose it, you can download it again for free. I really want to do this but it keeps saying "just login to play". I dont want to have to log in every time i want to play it. hmmmm
I also dont get how to even buy it. Do you just buy the regular PC version, then download the EA Downloader and download it? Then they will send you the game too by mail?
ill just wait till i see it in the stores. I dont even know where to pay for the game for the download version. If i could buy it, get it in the mail, and download it while i wait for the game to come to my house then id do it.
It's silly to download it because you are paying the same for less.
With the box version, when you tire of the game or even when the new version comes out, you can sell it for a few bucks. Live 06 still sells used on Amazon for almost $10.
With the download version, you cannot sell it when tired of the game or next year when the new version is released.
Also consider how marketing has trumped design and practicality.
- trump design: PC is the most advanced platform for games. Yet EA designs more and better features for XBox 360. Design and the ability to program to the best hardware has gone out the window.
- trump practicality. Because EA wants a specific release date, even stores that have the game now can't sell it until an arbitrary time on Tuesday.
IMHO, it's absurd to download something but not be able to play it until an arbitrary date.
What harm is there in opening the game to immediate play?
I have it on pre-load also, it wasn't incredibly intuitive and the download rate was horrible to say the least ( oh well ).
You have to remember that EA is probably the largest culprit using the horrible publishing model that has plagued the video game industry for years. You won't be able to activate your downloaded copy, or get a break on the price, because the Wal-Marts and EB's of the world would be pulling the title off their shelves.
The fix: Vote with your wallet, or pray for a production house to produce an NBA video game ( won't happen ) that isn't subjected to this broken middle-man publishing paradigm.
