Postby Stonecold on Thu Sep 21, 2006 5:58 pm

HAHAHA!
But back to the point, I don't think the PC patchers can really do that much to the graphics.

They can do alot to the graphics, they improve them immensely................. but in reality, it's like polishing a turd.

The graphical enhancments are limited to the foundation they are built on......... and the 360 is league's above even the best PC patched game.

Actually it depends on how big the pictures(resolution) you are using for the patch. So the amount of detail you can make a patch is almost limitless. By the way PC's are more powerfull than the XBOX 360.

There's a lot more that goes into patching (at least beyond simple things like CFs, etc.) than that. It will all be further explored with Live 07 -- rest assured.

Though, the vast majority of PCs are not nearly as powerful as the XBox 360, currently.

But will be sooner than people think. Call of Duty 2 looks better on my PC than it does on the XBOX360. :D

Not exactly, no matter how high resolution your patched texture is, it is limited by the complexity of the geometry of the player models/faces. Also, elements like lighting, crowd, stadium and general atmosphere are leaps and bounds better in Next Gen games. Patching can't get current gen to that level.......... at all.

Some patchers on here do a nice job of tweaking the lighting settings etc. but they are limited by the foundation of current gen.

Thats the problem finding the programs to edit all that stuff like the stadiums and what not. Thats why we cant make it as good as the 360. But I will take updated rosters and patching over way good graphics anyday.

I'm pretty sure that there are no such programs that would allow you to edit games in such a way. Patchers can only really tamper with what is already built into the game, not add onto it. That is of course, only until EA ports the nextx gen games to PC instead of current gen. That would be great because patch makers would have so much more to work with......... but I imagine that it would be a fair challenge to patch into a much more complex game engine.

EA has the programs. Maybe they dont release SDK's (software development kits) for some kind of money issue like people could create payware mods for NBA Live if they could edit anything they want. Thats the sad thing we just dont have the programs to do it.

We will certainly be working on stretching the boundaries of patching beyond what has been done before, and a lot of people will (hopefully) be pleasantly surprised. (Y)

Why would we make you guys do the work?

06 I think had a bunch of huge breakthroughs with the EBOs to the lighting files. AIACT.viv files and even more realistic looking jerseys.

we have a lot of very talented patchers here, id say the best of the best who dont work for EA. Your saying that we can't take on next-gen graphics-wise. I'm saying why can't we try
Opinions are my own.

no amount of patching from us guys will ever be able to make up for the next gen graphics.. no amount of patching will be able to make the jerseys wave etcetc.

Ditto on what Jowe said. Patching is only limited to mostly texture editing. Whatever patchers make is still bound by the graphics engine that EA ships.

which is very true, we will never be able have the same graphics while zooming in on the players in the replays, but we can come damn close when using the gameplay cameras.

If we get Xbox lighting this year we can make it look like the jerseys are moving. While it wouldnt be as good as the 360, it would be a nice step up from this year.
Opinions are my own.
