Talk about NBA Live 07 here.

Okay, so this is mostly about the PlayStation 2/3 controls as I am a console user - but as far as I've observed most people here use a controller with their PC. The following has been something I've been pondering ever since they released the info about the superstar moves being moved from the face buttons to the right analog stick. This is part my wishful thinking on how I'd like the controls to be and part how I think they'll be (mostly it's just to hear what you guys think but maybe to help out anyone in doubt how the new controls will work). I'm going to mention every single button just to make everything as clear as possible. I'll mark ideas/speculations (*), things I'm not a hundred percent sure of (?) and confirmed new/changed controls (!!) - and I'll comment as I go along:
Offence
!!L1 - Freestyle SuperStar (FSS) Trigger (you can shuffle through you players' SuperStar abilities by tapping the button multiple times. Archetypes on offense: shooter, outside scorer, inside scorer, highflyer and power dunker)
L2 - Direct Pass
*L3 - Backdown/Protect Ball (this is in part my wish, but thinking about it EA'd have to move the backdown/protect ball from the left analog stick, since you'd only be able to do one type of shot/move [R1+Right analog stick down] out of a backdown - also it didn't really work for me in 06 and was one of the things that irritated me. My idea is that you'd hold down on the left analog stick - activating L3 - while moving it around)
Left analog stick - Move Player
R1 - Turbo
?R2 - Alley-Oop (there's been talk about how they've changed the alley-oop control, but I have a hard time picturing it anywhere but the R2 button - unless they've come up with someway of doing it with the X button - or maybe only star or superstar playmakers can do it?)
*R3 - Pro-Hop/Power Dribble (since dunk and lay-up have been divided into two buttons I'd guess this would have to move - and I think moving it to R3 fits in nicely with the fact that all dribble moves have been moved onto the right analog stick)
!!Right analog stick - Freestyle Control (as far as I understand it'll be coupled with the FSS trigger so you'll pull of FSS moves by holding R1 down while moving the right analog stick, like in fighting games)
?Triangle - Lay-Up (I haven't really gotten a feel for how people view the separation of dunk and lay-up - personally I think it's a good idea, almost as good as when they divided the shoot and dunk button. I can't count how many times I've been irritated by the fact that a big guy down low with perfect position, didn't bring the ball up strong and dunk. Also I think that the separation will fit in nicely with momentum)
Circle - Shoot
?Cross - Pass (apparently the production team has given you the ability to do different kinds of passes depending on how you press the button. I know that one is a lob pass when you tap Cross but I'm not sure what the other one is)
Square - Dunk
Select - Timeout
Start - Pause Game
Direction Buttons - Quick Plays
Defense
!!L1 - Freestyle SuperStar (FSS) Trigger (you can shuffle through you players' SuperStar abilities by tapping the button multiple times. Archetypes on defense: outside and inside stopper)
L2 - Direct Switch
*L3 - Defensive stance (it would work like on offence where you'd hold down the left analog stick to activate L3 and then move the player around while holding it down. This would free up down on the right analog stick. Maybe EA should consider only using the right analog stick for stealing on D?)
Left analog stick - Move Player
R1 - Turbo
R2 - ?
R3 - ?
!!Right analog stick - Defensive Freestyle (again it'll be coupled with the FSS Trigger like on offense)
Triangle - Block
Circle - Charge
Cross - Change Player
Square - Steal
Select - Intentional Foul
Start - Pause Game
Direction Buttons - Quick Plays
Freestyle Air Offence
Square - Dunk
Triangle - Rebound
*Circle - Tip-In/Tip Direction (to attempt a tip-in you'd have to hold down circle when you get the rebound and then release shoot before you hit the ground, this would add a degree of difficulty and timing, thus making it harder to score this way than in 06. If you simply tap the circle button while choosing a direction with the left analog stick you have the opportunity to tip the ball to a team-mate)
*R3 - Box-Out/Fight For Position
Freestyle Air Defence
Triangle - Rebound
*Circle - Tip (like on offence you have the possibility of trying to tip it to a team-mate by tapping circle and choosing a direction, or simply up into the air and out of an opponents hand)
*R3 - Box-Out/Fight For Position

I'm digging this except for the R3 to play defense, holding down that button will make it hard to move around in a crouch position and probably make my thumb sore.

Oh wait, thank you for telling us that Mr. Javie.
I never heard of that either.

Andrew I have a question:
I don't know which console you played on(?), but could you comment on the new controls? (which buttons are used for dunk and lay-up, where pro-hop has moved and other additions/improvements)
If you're gonna mention this in your report, I can wait until it's done...

I played the game on Xbox and Xbox 360. Tapping the Y button performs a pro-hop, holding it performs a layup. That of course would be the triangle button on PS2 and whichever button you have it mapped to on a PC controller (I have a PS2 so I prefer to map my PC controller to match the PS2's controls). I'll comment further in my review.
