Late game computer AI

Postby rrenn007 on Wed Aug 02, 2006 2:04 am

Would love to hear some comments on late game computer AI and what scenerios you hope to be re-worked/added in live 07...

In my opinion, the computer needs to recognize the various plays espcially when under 2mins in the game. (ex. 2 for 1 opportunities, need to shoot a 3, when down by three with 10 seconds left etc, intentional foul bad free throw shooters, give the ball to the hot player (x factor), or SuperStar taking big shot not some sub) Any others??

Thanks for posting comments, I'm a strategy guy so anytime computer comes back without proper play, its basically cheap and rediculous.

eah I couldn't agree more! The AI in the last 2 minutes sucks big time! There are 3 MAJOR bugs in the 06 regarding the AI last minutes plays:

1. The players who should have the last shot(s). I mean when you see that a big man like Jermaine O'Neal or Magloire is shooting for 3 in the final seconds you just can't stop laughing. The AI should improve in the 07 and give the ball to the real players who can shoot from the outside if needed and most important thing who have the highest clutch shooting rating in the team

2. The 2nd problem is when the AI team has only 20 seconds to go and they are are behind by 4 let's say and instead of shooting the ball as quickly as they can they keep the ball way to much time. Again this should be improved in the 07

3. And the 3rd problem but not the last by a long shot is the foul trouble players. I've played many games in which the AI took off a player who had 5 fouls early in the 4th quarter and simply forgot to get him back on the court in the last minutes.

As you said the only thing the AI can do when they are behind in the last minutes is cheating  :x

ben wallace should not shoot a 3 when the score is 77-74 and 10 seconds left on the clock

For me he usually takes the shot when it's 2 or 3 seconds left...

It doesn't matter if the result is tied or they're loosing by 1 point, he takes it anyway...

The most irritating thing is if someone like Ben Wallace actually makes a three to win/tie the game. If you play great defense and deny their top shooters the ball then it's not completely unrealistic to force a poor shooter to take the final shot. Of course, that's not always how it works since they often find someone like Wallace and he holds the ball while the clock runs out before launching up a shot out of his range.

Since players will have a clutch rating this year, the CPU finding the right players down the stretch might not be such an issue...of course, clutch players being completely unstoppable time after time might still frustrate us this year.

Yeah when the AI is on a scoring streak the AI players will score from anywhere on the court literally (I'm talking here about superstar level where the cheating is at its best). I had experience with players like Jermaine O'Neal (btw his 3-pt shooting is like 10 or 12) hit a 3 from half court almost (ok it was the end of the 3rd quarter but this doesn't change the the situation). Or when the player who is on a scoring streak is also a decent 3-pt shooter that's bad for instance Casey Jacobsen scored an incredible 3 pt shot from way deep his own half I was leading by 3. My luck was that the time expired  .

P.S. And another thing (a little off-topic :) ) is when a player is clearly on the 2 point territory but the scoreboard shows that he hit a 3 point shot :?

I've been waiting for them to take that out, in Dynasty Mode it makes every game look like a fourth quarter collapse on my part.

Do you all think the X-Factor thing is going to be the "cheat" of all cheats in 07 ?
IMO...a robbert horry type player does not exist on every team.

i think they will mess up the x factor and the clutch things, you won't be able to stop neither of them and cpu will cheat to death

Up by one, 20 seconds left. Mutumbo holds the ball left outside the 3 point line. 5,4,3, he shoots and I kid you not, the ball hit about all the rim before going in to win. DEKE!

I haven't had anything quite that bad this year. I remember Mutombo stepping back and hitting three pointers a fair bit in NBA Live 2003 though.
