Did you get a look at the 73 New Ratings for Create A player? and if so, what are some new ratings called

Wed Aug 16, 2006 6:09 am

Damn I haven't read that much in two years (last year was slack in school), I just finished reading the current-gen, and will probably skip to the PSP part later. Way to go Andrew you've made me want to buy this game. Hopefully gameplay is as good as you've said, dynasty sounds reallly improved (maybe better than 2k6?), can't wait to try this game out, hopefully not another 50 bucks down the drain.

Wed Aug 16, 2006 6:14 am

Great recap Andrew! :D Thank you very much. I will definetely be looking forward to getting my hands on NBA Live 07 the day it comes out :)

Wed Aug 16, 2006 6:16 am

great review andrew, everything definetly sounds better, well almost. i am in agreement with jae about the FSS. never really cared for it and i personally never even used it during 06. the computer would use it against me and imo it just helped them keep the game close. anyway the dynasty sounds much improved and i really loved to hear about the ability to trade draft picks and that the rookie names are going to be said. sucks to hear about the lack of in game saves again which is my only real problem and brings me to this question,

did you ask, or get a reason why, they are not putting the saves back into the game? just curious if you happened to get a good answer as to why they are not getting this done? hell at this point i would be happy with a option to save at half time only. anything to break the game up for me since as anyone with a baby knows, you cant always get to sit down for a hour or so straight.

Wed Aug 16, 2006 6:16 am

in a scale of 0 to 100 andrew, how much would you give to the live versions you tried?

just curious...

Wed Aug 16, 2006 6:21 am

now, that's what I call a post

got a question,

Will the years left on players contract affect the trades? I mean, will the expiring contracts be more valuable for rebuilding teams?

thanks for recap (Y)

Wed Aug 16, 2006 6:24 am

Great recap Andrew, thanks for taking the time to let us know how you've experienced the new game and what you noticed.

There's two additional question that I've got:
1. - I'm not sure but I've read something about the PSP version having a function where you can take your dynasty from another platform (PC or PS2/3 not sure) on the road and continue on your PSP. Did you hear anything about this?
2. - Have you noticed anything in the dynasty mode about two CPU teams making trades, i.e. did they increase the number of trades happening in a season compared to Live 06?

Wed Aug 16, 2006 6:51 am

Nice review Andrew. This is the best review or preview i have read so far.

You mentioned that teammates tend to have better AI and run ISO's and help on defense on their own.

One of my problems with the game last year was that the CPU came over to double team in the post without me wanting him to double or the double teaming in the post came from the guy guarding the 3-point line which resulted in easy kick outs and threes.

How does the AI do on these aprts? Do they still come over to double, leaving the perimeter open for a three? Or do they just stick to the half court man- to - man like we order them to?

thnx

and considering the cost of getting all those players to sign licensing deals the interest and sales their presence would generate isn't really enough to justify spending the kind of money they would be demanding.

Not to sound offly too negative, but this to me, is a cop out.

How much money could that possibly cost to get the few players they're missing? And why would it even be a big deal to those players? Amazing...

Also Andrew, about block shots, did you notice jump shots being blocked more this time around? Especially by much taller players against much shorter players? And how are the quick first steps? Can you teleport again if you hold the right stick to the right and the player instantly does endless first steps?

Finally, any word on all decade teams? Or does that tie into the licensing "issues"?

Wed Aug 16, 2006 7:12 am

Supreme review andrew ;)

I buy the game 100% on PC.

But 2 questions:

1. Did you try, is Boykins faster than Iverson ? In 06 he is :P

2. What about the rosters, with draft 2006 roster and without draft 2006 roster, are thay the same, or different? becouse trades have bean done with this year draft picks and if i start with 2006 draft, what happens with tease trades?

Thanx a lot andrew

I really think legends should offer for free or even pay for being in the game. I mean... that's marketing. Sometimes I play with a team I'm not used to and I like one player and then I watch and NBA game and that player is there, and I start liking that guy. Maybe in some time I will think about buying some jersey of him, or poster, or whatever... that's good for him.

When I'll be a legend I will let EA to put me on the 2010-2020 allstars.

Glad someone agrees with me! That's exactly my point, these guys aren't even playing anymore, I'm sure they're not money hungry, I soley blame EA for copping out on us.

Wed Aug 16, 2006 7:55 am

Nice report Andrew. Couple of questions. Do you compete with other teams when trying to sign a free agent, or is it the same traditional method in that if you want to sign the player and he likes the offer he'll take it? Can you hire and fire your head coaches? Is scouting all year round? What is the Bird exception??? Thanks a lot.

I didn't see it in there.

I did see a screenshot from the community1.jpg that you can sign in...however i don't know if it tracks who you are and your user stats.

some players just ask for far too much money. i agree that they should want to be in the game but some people are all about money.

Is NBA Live 07 that good or EA paid you to say all these things?

 Didn't think about that possibility. Well, let's trust one year more on Andrew aka "Ricky, the guy of trailer park boys"

Only joking , no offence :)

Wed Aug 16, 2006 9:30 am

Andrew, I plan on purchasing a PS3 when its released, would you recomend waiting and buying 07 for that or purchasing 07 for PS2?

Wed Aug 16, 2006 10:37 am

Do you have info on the new player ratings? Thank you for all the information

Wed Aug 16, 2006 10:56 am

M Harlem 231 wrote:Is it more foul calls in the nextgen version?

It depends on the sliders. By default it seems to call fouls at an appropriate time.

CERVANTES wrote:Whey the hell they moved the backdown to the right analog stick last year and why the hell they maintain it ? I would have asked that if I was there.

To accommodate the FSS trigger.

Denmack wrote:1. The first one is just to get something clarified: you answered an earlier question about the primacy bug that primacy wouldn't affect the game as much as earlier. Is the reason for this the new play time manager? And about this new feature will you only be able to give a player playing time at their primary and secondary position? (or perhaps they've added a tertiary position?) In other words would I only be able to play a player like Joe Johnson at the two guard positions or can I give him time at SF?

2. I understand the problems concerning the legends, but will there be any new legends added this year? (Like Sir Charles)

3. I remember reading somewhere - I think over at IGN - that the players in 07 had almost 3 times as many ratings as previously? What are these new ratings? Are they tendencies or actual abilities?

4. and finally besides the ability to change a CAP's dunk pack were there any other changes in CAP?

1. In part, I believe. You can assign a player time at multiple positions, all five if you really wanted.
2. No, there's no new legends
3. Unfortunately I didn't get to explore that in-depth, I think a couple of the other guys got some info on that though.
4. There's no other changes.

Anthony15 wrote:Great Report Andrew! For the X-Factor, is it only gonna be the players off the bench such as Horry or Posey or it could be clutch players like Kobe and Melo?

No; the X-Factor concept is about players who aren't necessarily stars but can come up big in the clutch. Kobe and Melo are Superstar players so they can't be X-Factors.

aholbert32 wrote:is there a season mode in the 360 version and is it like last years game where you could control every team? Thanks.

Yes.

Silas wrote:1. Have they implemented a save stats patch, or will it have to be created manually like it was this year?

2. Since you didnt demo PC I'm not sure if you know the answer to this but... When you play a direct connect game the person who isnt hosting usually get's funny speech ID's for all their players. For instance, Steve Francis is called Sean Respert. Do you know if this problem has been fixed?

I can't say as there was no PC version there.

ataman5 wrote:First of all thank you very much andrew.. and ı have 2 questions that came to my mind now are deflections still count as turnovers and are we gona be able to chose the inbound players?

I didn't notice but that's not to say it definitely isn't there. They did mention addressing issues like that. And no, we can't designate the inbounding player.

-Young Buck- wrote:Do you know if the starters come out at halftime, or does the players that were last on the court come out like 06?

I didn't notice to be honest but the substitution patterns felt OK.

.BZ. wrote:One question though:
How's the in-game dunk pack editor?

Pretty cool, should be effective in fixing players whose movesets might seem a little off...or if you feel like a change.

FASJ wrote:do we have bank shots? can we choose?
did they shown anything on PS3? or promised something different for the console?
jump balls?

1. There are bank shots but forcing them comes down to FSS.
2. No, there was no PS3 display.
3. No, unfortunately not

Fenix wrote:Did you try create-a-player mode?

I did. It's basically the same as last year.

The Fresh Prince wrote:thanks a bunch jus 1 question how will keyboard users do the free throws and the FSS abilities thanks for ur answer

As I said in the review, the direction keys will simulate the right analog stick during free throws. I don't know about FSS moves since there was no PC version on display but the producers did say that the keyboard was taken into consideration when doing Current Gen.

nucahxToo wrote:I was wondering if you could set a rotation in real-time games as well. That would be a great addition, as it could help in not slowing down the action online, and in dynasty mode. That way all I would need to do is call a timeout and when it was time to give my players a blow they would get a blow.

The rotation settings are just for simulated games unfortunately.

Demonater wrote:Did you get a look at the 73 New Ratings for Create A player? and if so, what are some new ratings called

Unfortunately not, I tried to cram as much in as possible but I did spend a lot of time on gameplay and Dynasty Mode so I couldn't make many notes about that.

No reason was given, unfortunately. Guess we'll have to keep pushing on that one.

FASJ wrote:in a scale of 0 to 100 andrew, how much would you give to the live versions you tried?

I don't really like to put a number on something like that. Perhaps after I've reviewed the full version though.

Crash_Bandicoot wrote:Will the years left on players contract affect the trades? I mean, will the expiring contracts be more valuable for rebuilding teams?

From the looks of it that's not implemented in-depth but the trading logic does seem better. If you offer a fair trade or one that no team could pass up the CPU will take it more often than years past. Chemistry is also a factor.

1. That's correct, you can begin a Dynasty game on the PS2 and download it to the PSP. Last year you could only play one game but this time you can play several before uploading to the PS2 again.

2. It's a little better this year though there could stand to be some more transactions. The MLE definitely helps with signings though, for both the CPU and User.

SHAFT23 wrote:How does the AI do on these aprts? Do they still come over to double, leaving the perimeter open for a three? Or do they just stick to the half court man- to - man like we order them to?

They're smarter when it comes to things like that, there's less furious switching to control every on D and make sure all players stick with their man.

I'm afraid you're off the mark on the licensing issues. There's apparently a lot of complications with getting players who aren't in the retired players union as well budget constraints (these guys can and will ask for millions of dollars to appear in the games). It's not a cop out, there is a lot of difficulty getting some of these guys. THQ has similar problems with some of the legends in its WWE series.

I didn't think there was any problems with the blocks in NBA Live 07 from what I saw. Improved momentum has cut down on the waterbug movements and superhuman recovery times of the defense. Not that it's too easy to shake defenders but they don't slider with you in an off-balance stance as they would sometimes last year.

1. I didn't play with those guys so I don't know, sorry.
2. When you re-draft at the beginning of a Dynasty, only the rookies are taken off teams. Other transactions are not undone.

bruceleethree wrote:Glad someone agrees with me! That's exactly my point, these guys aren't even playing anymore, I'm sure they're not money hungry, I soley blame EA for copping out on us.

Again, not the case at all.

1. There's a bit of competition with free agents as well as staff signings. I offered exactly what they wanted but some still thanked me for the offer but took more money elsewhere.
2. Unfortunately not.
3. Yes, scouting's the same as last year plus you've got some more details with ESPN branded content (Mock Draft, recommended picks, analysis)
4. The exception that allows a team with three or more years of service to re-sign their player to max deals despite being over the cap. You could probably find a more detailed explanation on the web, there'll be an explanation in Dynasty Help as well.

Raptorel wrote:Is NBA Live 07 that good or EA paid you to say all these things?

I'm sorry, but I don't care for that remark at all. I'm presenting my honest opinions based on the observations I made. Perhaps we'll find some nagging issues when the full version is released; I tried to cram as much in as possible but 2-3 hours isn't really that long to try out a game especially when you're covering three different platforms and checking out as much as possible.

EA hasn't paid me one cent to write these opinions, they are my own. If you want to write me off as a stooge, that's your decision I guess but I really don't care for a remark like that.

Raps13 wrote:Andrew, I plan on purchasing a PS3 when its released, would you recomend waiting and buying 07 for that or purchasing 07 for PS2?

I truly believe Current Gen will be impressive in its own right but Next Gen looks fantastic this year and it will have Dynasty Mode, All-Star Weekend etc so if you feel you can wait it would probably be worth investing in.

KG21 wrote:Do you have info on the new player ratings? Thank you for all the information

Not at this time, sorry.

Hope the latest batch of answers has been informative, keep the questions coming but please read what's been posted already. We're starting to double up on some of the questions. ;)

Wed Aug 16, 2006 11:20 am

By allowing us to set the rotations and depth chart and thereafter the playing time by percentage and if the players starts or not should alleviate the primacy bug and stats engine a bit (I hope)

Overall, the game is looking fanstastic based upon your review.

I think next year new features will be:
1. in-game saves
2. 3-way, blockbuster trades and trading picks during Nba Draft
3. Head coaches
4. Maybe some mode like what we have in Madden with the Hall of Fame.

And finally, they'll jump into next generation in PC :D

At last, thanks for the great report Andrew, you're the best!

One question more:

what about saveing the ball...

does the player run after the ball or you run after it in slow motion, like in 06

and does player save it, when it starts to go out of bounds (jumb after the ball, when it goes out of bounds)

sry about my english, its not my mother language :P

Wed Aug 16, 2006 11:26 am

It's the same diving for loose balls animation as last year.

Wed Aug 16, 2006 11:49 am

Wow I can't wait for this. I'm gonna get a PS3 for christmas this year, and im mos def getting this game, along with madden 07.

Wed Aug 16, 2006 12:11 pm

hey andrew nice article

I got a few questions:

1. In the next-gen version, did they fix the camera angles. Hopefully they gave them some of the camera angles of current gen?

2. Did you enjoy playing current gen on next gen more...?
