I dont think they would put Tmac as the coverboy, unless some asian Houston Rocket obsessed guy was making the cover.....especially since T-Mac missed 3/4 of the season, and he sucked when he was there.
My money would go to:
-LeBron
-Kobe
-Dirk

I don't care who's on the cover this year (well ok maybe Damon Jones and his jacket would be funny as) I just want EA to fix up the gameplay properly.

For those who are interested here is the Wikipedia article on Nba Live featuring all the covers.

One for the superstitious in the audience.

On the subject of covers, the recent NBA Live covers would seem to have the opposite mystic effect to the Madden covers. Vince Carter was on the cover after his injury riddled 2002/2003 season, hasn't played fewer than 73 games since and his career has been revitalised with a trade. Carmelo remains an up and coming star and collected some hardware in the form of the 2005 Rookie Challenge MVP. And Wade continues to look impressive.

The 2007 cover has been narrowed down to nine possible candidates: Tracy McGrady, Gilbert Arenas, Elton Brand, Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, Allen Iverson, LeBron James, Shawn Marion, and Paul Pierce.

this is on wikipedia.

I guess Arenas

Putting aside the fact that list sounds like pure speculation and nothing more, it's not that strange. While the Pistons are a great team and boast four players on the 2006 All-Star team, none of them are as marketable as some of the other names on that list. Ultimately the hardcore fan isn't going to care who's on the cover but a high profile player is more likely to grab the attention of new and/or casual gamers.

@jackal, the list was from the wikipedia link. I'm really starting to thiunk it's t-mac, all the videos are based around him-the foot planting vid (great post) was all him for the majority of the video, anyway that video looked really good

Putting aside my choice of Damon Jones and his Red Jacket, last year I remember when they released an ad for Nba Live 06 they had T-Mac in it and some dude controls him like a Mech then gets out of him and goes into Dwayne Wade. I had a thought then T-Mac would be on the cover for 07 and I still think he will be. On T-Mac not being worthy as the cover athlete due to injury didn't Vince Carter have a injury plagued 02-03 and 03-04 when he was Nba Live 2004 cover athlete?

The list from Wiki is strange. I mean anyone can put anything there, and I have a strong feeling that it's just someone's own personal wish-list. Besides, it's been there for months now...

I wouldn't be surprised if the contract negotiations with LeBron fell through and they decided to go with Tracy instead. It's not a bad decision really, since he's one of the best players in the league (injury proned or not) and plays for a team with one of the largest fan bases around the world. I'm not saying he's a better cover choice than LeBron (which he is not), but if now there was some problem with getting LeBron, getting Tracy is a solid move.

Yeah someone just made it up based on their own judgements because a week ago I visited the article and they had Kevin Garnett on the list of possible cover athletes for 07 but he was already chosen for NBA Live 2001 but when I checked yesterday to grab the link he was removed.

How important is the cover model? I for one buy games based on their names, branding, reputation not on the guy whose in it. Sure it helps sell if you have a popular personality in it. But does it really help a person decide on the game by placing a big name person rather than the game's name only(ex.NBA Live)?

To the hardcore fans and longtime players, not very important. But amongst the casual gamers and new fans a widely popular and recognisable player is more significant in gaining sales.

I like the premise of that cover. It can definitly be polished..but him holding the logo is a nice idea.
