Hello all,
I got my game yesterday ( PC version ) and i wanted to share some of my impressions with you.
Like first, i do not care about graphics. All i care about is gameplay and the realism that can be achieved in an NBA video game. Seccond, i,m not an experienced player as many of you here, so bear with me if some of my comments are wrong because of lack of experience:)
Ok, let me start:
There are some improvements from last year and there are some disapointments. I can not escape the feel that EA sports target younger customers and as one of their guys said in an interview, this game is not that much of a sim. The "X factor" thing is a little poor feature to add into the game, since i think that a player gets hot not by random, but by the momentum and the flow inside a game. Predetermened random "hotness" just does not work for me.
The good:
Comentators are really good this year. The dish out good info.
Animations are much smoother. Some of the rebounds, touch ins, shooting animations, layups are really good to watch.
Player coalisions are more realistic.
Players are more responcive to fast breaks
Saw some good passes ( and some bad )
The bad:
We all know that "no - subs" ruin the game. When the players get tired they drag on the court and that is no fun.
The CPU PG almost always waits for all 5 teammates to be on the opponent's half before taking some action. Even if there is a good chance to break in close to the lane he does not take action. That looks pretty dumb.
Many of the rebounding animations are good, dont get me wrong, but sometimes big guys make unrealistic backward jumps with their hands in the air.
The ball physics is still all over the place. Sometimes the ball magicaly appears in the hands of the players (rebounds), sometimes there are silly "go through" passes and sometimes the ball just passes the cpu players in your team and they do not react. All these years passed and we still do not see players have actual feel of where the ball is.
No post play at all. I really liked when i could push through with my big guys in some of the earlier games. I wonder why they got this out of the game. In 06 you could do this with some left-right stick combinations, but i could not do it in 07... Very strange. However maybe i am just not familiar with the controlls enough.
I dont know if it's just me, but i think this year players jump too high? Especially the slow, heavy tall guys... Hmm... But i will test this once more.
Dunks - they are better this year, with more fluidness, however there are still silly in your face dunks over the big guys. Example - wade makes windmill, 360 dunks in crowded paint - very unrealistic. Good looking, but still unrealistic.
One on one defence. I noticed that it comes down to following your opponent closely and that is it. You can't make your player go into a defencive stance with his hand spreaded - like in some earler versions and try to block the path to the basket. You can take charge and hope for an offensive foul and trying to block someone is still tedious.
Steal/intercept is till non predictable and somehow random.
That would be it guys. I,m sure that with it's all up's and downs i will learn to like this game. I hope i will see a patch from ea soon and that you guys will come up with some good SLIDERS for realistic gameplay.
Cheers,
kokomal
