Talk about NBA Live 07 here.

I have taken some of the info from the Live 06 Playmakers playbook selections thread and updated the play numbers.

Here is that thread from 06:

http://www.nbaliveforums.com/ftopic29604.php

Here are the new Live 07 play numbers (there are a couple of changes from 06):

0 - Shooter A
1 - Balance
2 - Rocket Fuel
3 - Triple Threat
4 - Options
5 - Cavalier
6 - Zipper
7 - Sonic
8 - Philly
9 - Rising Sun
10 - Rip Iso
11 - Bulls Eye
12 - Boston
13 - Single Double
14 - Flare
15 - Double Power
16 - Double Back Screen
17 - Power C
18 - Power PF
19 - Mid Power
20 - Screen Game
21 - Highflyer SG
22 - Highflyer SF
23 - Shuffle
24 - Scorer PF
25 - Scorer SF
26 - Scorer SG
27 - Shooter B
28 - Back Door Play
29 - Secondary Quick Hitters

Note – it looks like a couple of plays are gone this year:
High Screen (gone in 07)
Playmaker (gone in 07)

To set the quick plays - Go to the playmap.dbf in the currentdb folder in My Documents. Note - It isn't in the saves folder.
.
Set the play number in these fields - OFF_1, OFF_2, OFF_3 and OFF_4

If the mappings are the same as last year then:
Quick Play number 1 is: OFF_3
Quick Play number 2 is: OFF_4
Quick Play number 3 is: OFF_2
Quick Play number 4 is: OFF_1

I have not verified that these still map the same…but you should get the idea.

To set the team strategy, set the play number in the OPMAIN field in the teams.dbf in you saves folder.

It looks like changing the team strategy to something (anything?) other than Shooter A in OPMAIN helps to fix the PG dominance issue.

If someone wants to figure out how these plays change basic player movements in the base set (when you don’t call a play) and suggest which plays should be used for which teams, then we can map the best play numbers to the best offensive strategy for each team.

For now I have just changed the OPMAIN field to other plays to see which ones seem to best alleviate the PG dominance issue.

Good luck…and keep on working to make this game better (nowhere to go but up, as they say).

Great info Steelman, thx ... just a quick question .. how do i open these DBF files and make these changes ??? Can't seem to find that info anywhere ..

Thu Oct 05, 2006 6:26 am

how do i open these DBF files and make these changes ??? Can't seem to find that info anywhere ..

I use MS Excel to edit most of the dbf files - but do not use Excel for the appearence.dbf file because saving that file from Excel messes it up. For that I use DB Commander 2000 which can be DLed off the NLSC site. When using Excel just save the file as a dBASE IV file type. I actually just close the file and Excel prompts if I want to save it...Click Yes....then when it asks if you want to keep the dBASE IV format...again click Yes.

You can also just use DB Commander 2000 to edit dbf file but Excel is easier to quickly edit multiple cells.

at least last year EA made it easier for these plays to evolve

Sun Oct 15, 2006 6:15 am

thanks, but i dont get it, has someone at EA said ''i think the markings on the court to help with the play should be taken out '' or is it technically impossible for them to put it in

I'm going to look over these over plays and see if I can help you guy's out. I don't have current gen this year but it should still be pretty simple to get the best plays designed for the top players.

Sun Oct 22, 2006 5:03 am

Flipz or anyone I need the DEFAULT starting 5 for all teams on the PS2 version or PC

Sun Oct 22, 2006 6:09 am

Guys, great topic! But maybe someone could post info about Team Strategy for every team? I mean, for example:

Team strategy for Houston (T-MAC is SF) - Scorer SF
or
Team strategy for Orlando - Scorer PF (Howard is PF)

You know what I am talking about? That should be a very nice addition to all these Plays and descriptions. PG Domination era is over! :)

And of course - STICKY!!

PS. Btw, is there any option, where I could change the Double Team OFF (on C's and PF's)? Because whenever big man gets the ball, he's double-teamed, backdown is useless. That could be awsome, all our problems have gone :)

Sorry FlipzLive07 I just got done with a huge roster file for Live 07 on the 360 version.

I will now work on this for you and hopefully have it done within the next 1-2 days.

Then I'm going to take a long break from Live until I recover from all the work I did on the 360 version............ :D

But this should be less stressful since it's only playbooks.

Yeah my bad..........it should have been Screen Game.

I'll update it.

Mon Nov 06, 2006 10:53 am

i think i might be on to something with plays.dbf

if you look in plays.dbf you see columns P1,P2,P3

for each play there is a frame number; i.e. 0,1,2,3,4
for each frame in the P1,P2,P3 there is a position listed.
i changed some of the PG positions- to make the PG get rid of the ball sooner.

was:
FRAME 0 PG
FRAME 1 PG, SG
FRAME 2 PG, SF,C

new:
FRAME 0 PG
FRAME 1 SG, PG
FRAME 2 SF, C, PG

this seems to affect the ball distribution during a play..

overall:
1) added plays to OFFMAIN and DEFMAIN in teams.dbf
2) added offensive plays to playmap.dbf
3) changed the the P1,P2,P3 so the PG doesn't hold on to the ball too long.
4) changed primacy for the players; used a formula; total field goal atts+ total free throw attempts divided by total minutes.

so far the gameplay is very realistic in my intital testing

Sat Nov 11, 2006 7:17 pm

Hey icd so how is your gameplay working now? Is there no more PG dominance Please keep us informed about your testing and if possible put up the box scores.

f

Sun Nov 12, 2006 1:18 pm

So what's the update on this?

Sun Nov 12, 2006 4:39 pm

i've been busy with work lately and haven't had too much time to work on it.
i'm not sure what affect it really has. i've played some games were the point guard seemed to tend to dish off instead of trying to penetrate as much. i haven't done enough testing yet to post anything conclusive. my main point of focus at the moment is i'm thinking these P1,P2,P3 lines might indicate who the Primary ball-handler is or something of that nature.

please anyone else feel free to test this yourselves as well. the more testing the better. i'm going to be pretty busy with work, etc. so i really can't do as much testing with this as quickly as i would like to.
