Sorry to disappoint you but it's not ambient lighting that makes PC to look like XBOX, not even a little bit. Ambient fakes the effect taking out shadowing from the picture and makes it look like Live 2000 with just alot more detailed models and texture filtering support.

XBOX360 uses ambient occlusion and hdr exposure which gives it that look. You can't even fake it with PC Live 07 no matter what you do, so advertising it as such is, well, cheap. Psychologically some may really believe that this lighting that takes out shadowing looks better, but it's just different waved under the flag of XBOX360.

no shading does NOT mean XBOX 360.

Let me explain it to you another way..

No shading (aka simulated very high ambient settings) result in light being uniform across the shaded 3D model.

NBA Live PC however uses light shading which shades the model depending on polygons normals and gives it lighting information (which is averaged across the vertexes).

Ambient Occlusion or it's simulation is what XBOX360 gives. This is the same thing, with the exception of lightmapped information stored on models which allows for ambient occlusion (average between polygons angles used for light calculation).

What this patch -here- does is that it actually moves further towards the first step from the second one, and not towards the third step. You take out all shading and end up with plain non-shaded or nearly non-shaded models which really looks like, as I said, Live 2000 with more detailed models.

Anyways, yeah, I guess whatever rocks your boat

thanks for your explanation :D i like it

but which version are you using? have you tried one of it? have you tried the latest Version 6? or just by the screenshots? haha

Chris_23, that's actually an excellent analysis of the lighting patch. I think you hit the nail on the head perfectly. (Y)

That's some thorough information indeed, but instead of bashing the patch and pointing out the PC version's flaws against the almighty 360 (gimme a break...), maybe you can try to do something for the community as important as what Jimmy is doing...That type of comment is just not very helpful in a PC-related thread IMO.

no matter what they say, I still think jimmy's lighting patch is a lot better that EA's.. so keep up the good work jimmy (Y) .... I'm currently using your V6 ..

Hey Jimmy, v6.0 is really sweet, but it made my game crash as I was editing players, so I'm back to v4.0 for now... :(

My bad, I have a problem with one particular player, Delonte West. If I edit him or try to play with him (any mode), my game crashes right ahead...
I have no idea wtf is wrong with that...
Sorry for alarming you Jimmy

Amazing V7 lighting (Y)

Fri Dec 08, 2006 10:56 pm

Hey Jimmy,

I know you recommend turning reflections OFF, but this means that the floor won't have reflections too and that really unrealistic in my opinion...

Any chance you could tweak things in your next version so that everything about the faces/jeseys/arms.. will look about the same but with reflections ON?

Thanks :D
