For some reason I just thought of News Reporter James. :?

And  at Kevin, I've never been hailed as a god before.

Bigh0rt, wtf is your problem man?? If you've been around here any sort of time you'd know I'm illiterate.

EDIT: to answer your follow-up questions in advance, I illegally smuggled in a scandinavian midget who I dictate all of my posts to. Unfortunately I can't stand the sound of his voice so I get tired of listening to him read long threads and just skip to making my reply. Yeah, I actually do hate your voice you red haired shit. No, don't type that! Or this! wtf man

Andrew, one more thing...

In NBA Live 06, if you stop, pump fake, and then shoot, the shooting player acurracy greatly increases than if you would shoot directly (without pump faking). This is true regardless if a player is or isn't in the shooting player's face. So while you put, let's say, middle range shooting slider to 37, you will make non-pump-fake shots and miss some of them too, but you will almost always make pump-fake shots, if that makes any sense to you.

If you did know about this (or even if you didn't)... have you noticed anything like this in NBA Live 07? Because it's annoying to know you can pump fake and then you will almost always get the shot to fall...

Yeah, he must have missed that thread where I got in a flame war with Indy over how I was too lazy to read a giant article.

But wait a second, are you saying he must not know me because I'm not all SHUTTHEFCKUPYOUDICK! (which, by the way, is very hard to dictate to a scandinavian midget) or because I'm generally regarded as lazy?

Fri Aug 18, 2006 2:49 am

Whether I 'know' someone or not, doesn't give them a free pass on laziness, unnecessarily lengthening an important thread.

But, let's just let this die here, and let the thread get back on topic. (Y)

hey andrew.......one more Q. i might have missed it. sorry if i did.

If we have 2 seperate buttons or dunk or lay up and shooting. What is the hop step or hop back or drop step button?

thnx

Let what die? What are you even talking about? A free pass on laziness?? What does that even mean? I'd look it up, but that would take effort.

I read through a lot of the thread and didn't actually find the answer to my question.

EDIT: Oh wait haha there's a secret reply inside a giant post by Andrew. Hoorah! Since Kevin answered my second question I will leave this thread for now. Actually not before I post about how stupid it is that for the 3rd year straight EA still hasn't fixed the freethrow sub bug.

This has actually already been answered. It's still the same button as before (triangle on PS and Y on X-Box) it just depends on how you press the button: a tap will result in a drop step/step back/pro hop and if you hold it down it'll result in a lay-up

Great review Andrew, got my hopes up for the game now. I only have one question for now.

Are there now both 20 second timeouts and full timeouts or are they the same as last year?

Just out of curiosity, Why would you care about T.O. length? Do you really want to wait 20 secs/5 mins after you call a timeout? What would be great is if you could call a play during a timeout, but I don't think it is in current gen this year.

Fri Aug 18, 2006 5:46 am

Damn, so many new features! I can't wait!

Fri Aug 18, 2006 5:52 am

Thanks Andrew for the awsome recap, I have questions for you if you don't mind:

1) Is the depth chart system only featured in the Dynasty mode? Or can it be used during the Regular Season Mode and Play Now mode?

2) Is the CPU substitution patterns realistic? Does the CPU play its players at multiple position an example is King James playing both the SG/SF or even PG at times if the CPU is playing as the Cavs?

3) I'm a realists to be honest with you, if i see a certain trade or a substition being displayed while watch a NBA game on tv i will try to mimic this while i'm playing LIVE, so my question is that before a PLAY NOW game or a Regular Season game, in which you are able to control the CPU roster movements can you set the Depth Chart and substition pattern for the opponent as well so the CPU makes realistic substition patterns like on TV? and are you able to make trades between different teams not just for the team you picked at the beginning of the Regular Season?

Thank you for your attention Andrew, hoping to read your apply soon, latez.

Fri Aug 18, 2006 6:31 am

Are you allow to control more then one team in Dynasty mode? I would love to do dynasty with me and my brother.

Fri Aug 18, 2006 6:50 am

What's with you all, none of you are atleast happy that he made it safely to Vancouver and back  ? Anyways, thanks for that review there, Andrew. My question is: remember how last year, the scorers (both Inside and Outside) had these special Triple-Threat/Back to the Basket moves that involved holding the superstar trigger, and a mixture of the two analog sticks (atleast on the PS2 it was)? This year, the right analog is used to initiate a scoring move (the special layups, turnaround jumpers, etc.), are these moves no longer available (the special triple-threat/back-to-the-basket for scorers), or are they still there, but initiated differently?

Fri Aug 18, 2006 7:14 am

First of all, thank you Andrew for the detailed description. I'm looking forward to the new LIVE.

Starting this year we'll have to pay close attention to team chemistry and player happiness. Players will comment on a variety of things: market size, roster stability, winning percentage, team events, playing time and bench order, team talent and overall team chemistry. Some aspects are beyond your control. If you're controlling a small market team then a player who wants to play in a big market is only going to be satisfied if you trade him to a big market team. So long as he's happy about other aspects of the team you shouldn't run into too much trouble with him.

Bars will indicate a player's satisfaction with each aspect of the team. He'll also comments such as "I think we need to make some moves", "I'm happy with the direction of this team", "A lot of players have trouble seeing eye-to-eye" and so on. You're also able to monitor a player's relationship with his teammates and check out how they might feel about playing with other players in the league as well as how those players feel about their current teammates and whether they might welcome a move to your team. Given that this all affects your chances of success as well as signing and re-signing players it's a huge improvement to Dynasty Mode.

How will team chemistry affect the gameplay? If a few players weren't getting along on a team, will that affect their performances during the game? If so, will their ratings go down? and how big of an impact will it make to the user played games and simulated games?

or will team chemistry only affect the re-signing process?

thanks again

Fri Aug 18, 2006 7:23 am

Andrew wrote:Team Chemistry will affect success, the likelihood of signing/re-signing players and how well players perform. If a player is unhappy it will affect the overall chemistry of the team though obviously not as much as if half the team feels unhappy with the current situation. You're more likely to lose unhappy players or be able to sign players who are unhappy on their current teams. Getting rid of unpopular players will also help chemistry which is better for the team's success.

Same here.

Fri Aug 18, 2006 9:51 am

Hey Andrew. A couple of more questions:
1) When offering a free agent a contract, can you see what other teams are offering him? Or do they just reject your offer and say that they're considering other offers?
2) When proposing a trade, if the CPU accepts the offer, does it go through automatically, or does it say that they accept so are you sure you want to make the trade? I want to know because I don't like it that I offer a trade and then there is no feedback and they just accept, because I like sending feelers to the team to see if they are interested. Also do the teams trade more logically in that they stock up with multiple superstars in one position?? I hate that!
3) To verify, you can scout your potential draft picks all year round where you send a scout to find out things about the player?
4) Is it easy to develop your team and players or is there some sort of challenge? Is everything based off team and player chemistry? Like I mean, are you going to always be successful if you keep your chmeistry high??
5) Can you create a player in the middle of your Dynasty Mode?? Because I want to create Greg Oden after the first season.
Thanks a lot Andrew.

Instant Replay?

Fri Aug 18, 2006 9:56 am

Andrew,

Is there manual instant replay in the next gen version? Lat year's game only had automatic instant replays.

Are there any modes found in the current gen mode that arent in the next gen version?

Fri Aug 18, 2006 10:55 am

I have a question as well, did they take out the pro-hop move in favor of the dunk button? Because in the GameTrailers' video, they said the "X" button (xbox) would be the dunk button I think.

Fri Aug 18, 2006 11:46 am

Damn, that sounds good, it's actually starting to draw me to some interest. I was so disappointed with the last 6 years, so I'm hoping this year will be good since they finally put more emphasis on gameplay. I'm a little disappointed that dynasty mode isn't that much different, but I'm gonna see how good this game is when it comes out.

Denmack wrote:You answered someone that the back down control is the same as last year (pulling down on the right analog stick). But how can that co-exist with the FSS trigger (which works with the same stick) and switching between FSS types? Let's say I'm playing with the Spurs and backing down some PF with Timmy D now when I start my back down his FSS is Power but I want to switch to Inside Scorer, how is that possible? And also if you're allways pulling down the left analog stick while backing down then pressing the FSS trigger would allways result in the same FSS move... As you can tell I'm a bit puzzled over this

I already answered this one and I'm not sure how I can explain it any simpler than I did before, but here goes:

To change FSS movsets:

Hold down the FSS trigger and press the right analog button. That's when you push the right analog stick in. If you've played the GTA series on the PS2, that's the R3 button (how you initiate Taxi/Vigilante missions). In NBA Live 06, you hold it down to initiate Off-Ball control.

Off-Ball control is still available and will be activated if you don't hold down the FSS trigger.

To back down

The exact same as last year. Hold down (or back, if you prefer) on the right analog stick while moving the player with the left stick.

- 2 player practice?

1. I didn't notice, sorry. I am aware of the issue as everyone is but it's difficult to check out all scenarios and whether or not there's still bugs like that.

2. Should be easier.

3. No.

Vytenis wrote:1. Is it the Camera (On PC Platform) PRESS BOX in the game? and can you play with that camera in practice,5on5,1on1?
2. Is their is some new gamemode? (2on2 , 3on3 , maybe some streetball tournament, practice with 2 players)

1. Again, I did not play the PC version as it wasn't on display. But Press Box will be in Current Gen so there's no reason it won't be in the PC version. And yes, as before you can change the camera view in Practice Mode.

2. No. If there had been, we'd have known long before now. ;)

1. No.
2. No.
3. No.
4. Yes they're still there, no they're not there for the All-Star/Rookie Game (unless I missed something).

Unfortunately not.

It's still the same. They go back two days.

No, still second free throw.

As with all NBA Lives, if you set your feet with a pump fake you do increase your chances of making the shot.

Tap the button for a pro-hop/drop-step and hold it for a dunk.

Same as last year, there's no 20 second timeouts.

1. It could be in Season Mode but it's not in Play Now Mode. It's for simulating games so there's no need to have it in exhibition matches.

2. It's hard to say for sure based on a few games with only a couple of different teams but it didn't look too bad.

3. No.

KG21 wrote:Are you allow to control more then one team in Dynasty mode? I would love to do dynasty with me and my brother.

No, but Season Mode is still multiplayer.

I for one am happy I made it to Vancouver and back safely. ;) As far as I could tell they still have those moves in the triple threat position.

Unhappy players won't perform as well in simulation or gameplay. A team with poor chemistry is not going to do well. In addition to that, transactions will be affected by chemistry (ie harder to re-sign players who are unhappy), so you won't be able to just throw money at a player and re-sign him (and you'll know why).

1. You can see what other teams are interested in him but you can't see/match their offers.

2. Unfortunately not, I was hoping it would be but it's the same as last year.

3. Correct.

4. Development is much the same as last year, I'm not sure how big a role chemistry plays because that wasn't immediately apparent. You aren't guaranteed success with good team chemistry, you'll need to have a good team but it will go a long way in you getting the most out of your team.

5. No.

It definitely does seem like something I'd consider buying (unlike last year when it didn't even cross my mind) but there is one thing that is really bothering me, and that is dynasty mode. From what you've said there's very very few additions, and the only real change (apart from the chemistry thing which will undoubtedly get old) is the MLE, which for me frankly isn't enough. With ESPN on board I was really expecting alot from dynasty mode, the possibilities are seriously endless but I'm guessing/hoping it's just a case of them wanting to focus more on the game play and not just thinking dynasty mode is fine as it is.

I completely agree with you. It seems that MLE is the only thing they added, and everything else is all hype and marketing. I'm very happy with MLE, chemistry, ESPN rumors, player evolution, and FSS, but I'm not too impressed with the inability to hire and fire your head coach, no trade block, the off season is still linear, you can't save during the off season or in games, no sign and trade, no contract extensions, only two days of box scores during the season and not any during the playoffs, and no accepting of a trade after you offered one to another team and they accepted. They could have done more to improve especially the Dynasty, although improvments were made, I have to say they did try hard this year, but for some reason it just seems like its all marketing. I could be a little picky here, but come on, several games like FIFA, Madden, and MVP had these features. Why doesn't LIVE???
