Speech IDs

Postby hoopscitylive on Wed Sep 27, 2006 5:18 pm

I've been messing around with the DBFs trying to figure out the missing players' speech IDs. Here's what I have so far:

2044 Sergio Rodriguez
2046 Thabo Sefolosha
2053 Dee Brown
2056 Joel Freeland
2059 Craig Smith
2060 Denham Brown
2062 Olexsiy Pecherov
2065 Steve Novak
2068 Kosta Perovic
2071 Marcus Vinicius
2072 Lior Eliyahu
2074 Paul Millsap
2075 Vladimir Veremeenko
2076 Ryan Hollins
2077 Cheik Samb
2078 Guillermo Diaz
2079 Hassan Adams
2080 Ejike Ugboaja
2081 Edin Bavcic
2082 Loukas Mavrokefalidis
2083 Danilo (J.R.) Pinnock
2084 Damir Markota
2085 Will Blalock

I can't seem to remember how I got their cyberfaces to work last year. I know it had something to do with editing the appearance.dbf. Also, in most cases you can add their player portrait by inserting the correct PLAYERPKG in the players.dbf and editing some of the other fields to match those of non-created players.

Of the six players I created (signed draft picks not in the game), Dee Brown, Thabo Sefolosha, Steve Novak, Craig Smith, Ryan Hollins and JR Pinnock, the only PLAYERPKG I couldn't get right was Dee Brown's. DEBROWN is old-ass Boston Celtics Dee Brown. Denham Brown's would be equally confusing. If anyone else comes up with anything, I'd be glad to hear it. I'll play around some more tomorrow and post my results.

Hey man, could you explain the speech files?

So can the commentators/announcer say Thabo Sefolosha?

Yeah, basically you create a player and give him the correct SpeechID in the players.dbf and the arena announcers and Marv and Steve will call them the correct name. I'm assuming they record all of the names at once before they know who's going to be signed, so if they release a patch, they just need to update the database files.

Last season the cyberfaces and player portaits were also available for hidden players, though I haven't yet figured out how to get the cyberfaces to work again.

Here's the SpeechID thread from last year if you want to know more:

Does created players ie rookies the game makes have their names called or is it still 'player 25'? Cos I hated that crap in 06.

Sorry all, I've just read that , yes the game does pronounce last names for created players.

Randy - 'Did you know Earl that before we was humans we was monkeys?'
Earl - 'Hmmm, What were we before we were monkeys?'
Randy - 'I don't know...I don't even remember being a monkey'

To be honest I've spent more time playing with the DBF file than playing the actual game. I read an article that said generated players would have their names called in Live 07, but I have not personally verified this yet.

hoopscitylive, good work. I never understood the whole speech ID stuff, I had no idea that EA actually included the names of players they they don't put in the original roster.

As far as I know there's no way to determine the speech IDs without testing in-game. It's mostly trial and error. I create five guys and make them the starting lineup for the Heat. Then I look in the players.dbf for a range of unlisted Speech IDs and fill in the created players' Speech IDs with missing numbers. Then I go back into the game and "Play Now" and listen to the starting lineups to see what names the announcer calls.

Here are some more Speech IDs determined from previous versions of Live. I haven't verified these yet, but they should work:

1390 Kelenna Azubuike
1392 Eddie Basden
1155 Ndudi Ebi
1061 Junior Harrington (might be called as 'Lorinza')
1371 Mile Ilic
1012 Casey Jacobsen
1383 Amir Johnson
8022 John Lucas
1020 Roger Mason
160 Greg Ostertag
1280 Jared Reiner
1385 Uros Slokar
1367 Von Wafer
996 Dejuan Wagner
1160 Derrick Zimmerman

LaSing, if I haven't listed it, then I don't know if it's in the game or not. I will let you know if I find Spanoulis though.

As the season gets closer I'll probably release my roster file with all the created players like I did last year. Hopefully I'll be able to remember how to unlock the cyberfaces by then. :)

I have tested couple of speech id's for legends players..Jordan, Kemp and others..it looks like that the announcer doesn't say their names but Marv..Also i found out that the speech id's don't work if you put your player a nickname:(..one positive think is that Live 06 portrait files are straight compatible with 07:)

If the players aren't signed by the roster cut-off date, they can't put them in for legal reasons. It has to do with their licensing agreement with the NBA Players Association. That's why they put the players in but don't make them available. So when they release a roster patch, all they're doing is updating a few database files and not sending speech and graphic files.

I created a player called "Chris Dawkins". The announcer would call his name everytime he scored. "Great" i thought. Then sometime during a game the commentator said "Dawkins had a few spectacular seasons during the 80's" and Steve Kerr replying "Well, i played pretty well in the 90's too". I found it highly amusing

You can assign nicknames by editing NICKNAMEID in players.dbf so that the value corresponds to an ID in nicknames.dbf.

Just to make sure -

only ID from 9500-9519 will be recognized by Marv or the announcer, right ?
