Games unplayable in vista?

Sat Feb 10, 2007 10:01 am

Hi, i installed vista (didn't delete XP, and didn't delete gentoo, so i have 3 OS's)

and I disabled all the display themes for live to get some extra performance, but it struggles even on mid-range settings. On XP i play all games on maximum everything, with AA and AF, Vs, etc (NBA Live - simple graphics, madden, Counter-strike source, half-life 2 - more complex, FEAR - really complex, almost on max but not quite ;)

I want to know if there is any secret to gaming in vista, because this is just god awful the way it performs, even with the display pretties disabled. (I didnt even bother playing a semi-complex gfx game because I know it will be impossible)

My specs:
Core 2 Duo e6400 @ 2.6 ghz
DFI Infinity 975x
2gb ddr2-800 @ CAS 4 798 mhz
NVidia 7900 gt ko superclock (580/1580) factory OC'd

IMO, these are pretty good specs for gaming, and they have proved that to me in gaming, but not in vista.

So do you need a $1000 SLI setup just to play games in vista? Or is there some secret that makes games playable?

*edit* it's 64-bit version, with nvidia 64-bit vista drivers v97.46

I'm planning on buying a 8800 series for my birthday, which will probably make it better, but it's a high price just to game in vista :\
