help: an offline lagging issue

I don't know wt happened to my comp...the game has been running smoothly since i started playing live07 in December
I had left my game alone for abt a week or so since i was busy w/ school work...'n a couple days ago when i had time for a game...i loaded my dynasty...i clicked on the next game 'n selected "play game"...it took a lil' longer than usual to load into the team screen...but tht wasn't the main problem...
After tipoff...the game was exceptionally laggy...enough so tht driving to the basket slowed down the game...'n it was impossible to time my rebounding 'n stuff...so i exited the game 'n tried it again...the same...
Before running live07 tht day...i installed Jimmy's Gamefix...so i decided to reinstall the game without adding the gamefixes 'n stuff...but still laggy...
I ran defragmentation...virus scans...deleted abt 10gb stuff...no improvements...
I tried altering the detail settings of the game...'n i dun recall myself hving to lower those settings when i started playing in december...it improved a little only...still laggy when players crowd together 'n during rebounding...
My system: Windows XP, Pentium 4, 2.80GHz, 512MB RAM, nvidia gforce fx5200

Sorry guys, something i forgot to say...
actually after leaving the game for a week or so...the game actually crashed out during loading into the ball game...i reinstalled it 'n added Jimmy's Gamefix...then the lagging situation occurred...
