Spending more time tweaking than playing...

Fri Dec 08, 2006 1:31 pm

Am I the only one in this situation?
I spend hours tweaking the game, reordering rosters, and making patches, but lately I can't even get to finish a single game because of all the bugs and nonsense... :?
With all the fixes and patches I have installed, I still want to slam my head in a wall half of the time...Even though PG domination and CPU subbing are fixed for me, here's a couple of remaining issues that piss me off REALLY badly:
- the off-ball thing being triggered randomly: I still get that several times each game, I get randomly locked on a player (usually the PG) even though I didn't use the off-ball button (that I remapped to another key), and only a timeout or switching back and forth the controller can solve that... :evil:
- offensive rebounding is out of control (mostly for CPU), no matter the "fix" I use or its value in the sliders. It's the other way around for the user steals and blocks, can't get any of these whatsoever.
- CPU freestyle is overwhelming even when set to 0 in the sliders. Same thing for the adjusted shots, CPU always makes them (plus the foul) no matter their value in the sliders.

Anyway, the list goes on, and these have been mentioned in the stickied posts, but they're are so fucking annoying and really discourage me from playing (and patching) the game any longer...Anyone got some tips for me (besides using Jimmy or REDD's fix)?
Sorry for the rant, just feel like giving up on this game.

how did you fix the substitution problem and the pg domination

The first beta leaked patch did the trick for me.
From what I read, it doesn't seem necessary for me to reinstall the game and install the official patch, since it doesn't really fix anything more than what the first beta did, and it doesn't even work properly for everyone apparently... :?

@el badman

do you have a link for us to download the beta leaked patch

Fri Dec 08, 2006 3:32 pm

Sorry memox, I didn't keep the .exe, and I don't know if the link is still up on EA's website :(
That's also why I don't wanna uninstall and reinstall the game if I'm not even sure that the official patch will work...

@el badman

so its from the EA's website? do you have any idea?

Yeah, I just found the announcement that was made on this forum when the beta version was first released, it has the link on EA's ftp server, but it's no longer valid apparently... :?
Sorry man

El badman, I felt the same way as you atleast 10 times since the games release. Thinking, why am I putting a bunch of work into this game? Well, after a while of tweaking, I have finally had some fun with it. Having Jimmy's team.dbf/playmap.dbf files, and some fair sliders does the trick for me. Also, a good aiact file will have you enjoying the gameplay without being so distracted by the bugs and issues.

Today I had two games down to the wire. The first game I tied it up with a 3 pointer with 4.9 left on the clock. The cpu shot a 3 that missed but was tipped in at the buzzer to my disbelief. I played another game and I took 2 point lead thanks to a Kobe dunk with 2.7 left. Thinking I had the victory, I played deny defense on the pg so he would ge the ball in the backcourt, but the cpu passes it into the post and a jumpshot ties it up with 1.0 left. I didn't get a good shot off and it went to overtime.

You can still install the full patch with the beta installed. Just rename the beta exe and grab the original exe form the DVD. Now install the official patch. The only thing I noticed was the directpass icons were fixed, an I still don't have any "last man back" functionality.

One more thing, I think I can get rid of the "locked player" problem. I just don't use direct pass for a while and it goes away. Maybe the controller switch is quicker, I don't know.

Thanks for the input Pdub.
I did enjoy a few games a month ago or so, using REDD's older fix that made everything pretty realistic, but now I can't achieve that effect anymore.
I've updated the fix, tried Jimmy's and REDD's, tried Revolution's aiact, but I keep noticing more and more nonsense, like the "matrix" effects on layup blocks and rebounds, or the freestyle efficiency that's way too extreme for the CPU even with a value of 0 in the sliders...
Basically, I realized that the sliders effect is non-existant for a few settings (at least on my version), like off. rbds, steals, blocks, FSS, or even defense assistance for the user, and that really bothers me.
Regarding the random locks on a player, I've had that since the beginning and I can't get rid of it. It seems to happen mostly if I hold the pass button a little bit too long, and I can't reverse it in-game, I have to switch controllers to cancel it...
Anyway, hopefully a brand new aiact and gameplay fix will come up soon, I'm not completely losing hope. :wink:
