Just Sum Thoughts...

Postby H.N.I.C.-MUCKZ on Mon Oct 30, 2006 10:01 pm

Been on this site for sum years now and for a few reasons, I just felt the need to share these words on this dope site (up there with a few other favs)!! Searching the downloads and sifting through the forum from day to day, and seeing the eventual response and somewhat action of another patch for Live (07), it's clear that this community is devoted and on point when it comes to basketball. With that said, I just have a few personal opinions to air out when it comes to Live 07...

Newayz (regardless if any of u guyz disagree before/after this post), I regard myself as being pretty knowledgable when it comes down to all North American sports, but more specifically, I just kill it with ball.

I, like many of you, initially looked at this years' edition of Live as kinda fucked up on a lot of fronts. Of course thats been said nuff and all types of bugs have been posted on here, but when it comes down to it (and after the quite helpfull beta patch), this years' Live ain't lookin so bad. Like all previous Lives, NLSC will be filled with patches made my lotz of skilled and devoted dudez that improve a lot of various things. But, this year's edtion is cleary the best NBA Live to date. Just a handful of things need to be addressed:

-- Withouth the patch, i found the pg domination to be the same as the masses...but with the beta, thats kinda resolved for me and like last year, Teams/Playmap.dbf's have been released to battle the issue (very useful in getting team distribution). Yet, same as last year, as the cpu teams run their plays, the catch and shoot is on for the wreckless shooter regardless of the triple team at times which gets too ridiculous and contributes heavily to the combined 250+ shots in most of my 48 min games against the cpu (which is just unrealistic, even with the modern day NBA and evidence of sum 2007 NBA pre-season games).

-- The majority of this years' defense is broken down into just sum fast-break mayhem. Considering any chance the cpu gets with the odd or even rush, they try to stuff it down ur throat. Any cpu steal or block results in a definite fast break attempt, leaving the user almost helpless trying to figure out how to stay infront of the man trying to get to the bucket. Reminds me, how do u stay in front when that "im just gonna try 'n bust through" animation comes on like the one off March Madness 06, but a lot weaker in Live 07. I think the trick is to hold down turbo when the defensive animation comes up, but too often they still manage their way by me and finish the play. Way too confusing and unreal (wtf, n they still got the bumping animation...).

-- Damn already, EA needs to fix the offensive rebounding. Even though there are the rare games where i get lucky and dont get torched (mainly because there isn't a board crasher like Fortson or whomever in rotation), its too often when the cpu pulls down 20-30+ off. rebs on me. Even the backcourt can grab off boards in traffic way too much which is also ridicilous. The only option would be to dbf edit and reduce every player's off. reb (like stamina for subs which works), which probably would have sum effect, but that aint right to begin with. Needs to be revamped.

-- Maybe just a couple more things to mention...like an entirely re-done rating system for NBA quality players!!! Every year i study the rosters and ratings and I'm just blown away by the inaccuracy and the nerve of EA. To break it down more specifically, NBA players are on their teams for a reason, because they are scouted heavilty and good enough to make an NBA squad with all the competition surrounding them. These players are the elite of the elite from their demographic. The EA rating of a player in a whole (eg. 50-100) or for specific attributes to differentiate the NBA's "elite" from the end of the bench scrubs is way off line. Considering they scewed the ratings of individual players to fit their rating system, makes the game completely inaccurate. For instance, year in and year out, the fresh faces of the NBA are just better athletes then their predecessors (i.e. growth of youth programs and of course, human genetics). My only option every year is to download a current roster and completely edit it myself (salaries included because they are also messed up). I have to examine every individuals' ratings and change it to be how it really should read. For example (not even the beginning of my changes), players like Yakhouba Diawara, Mikael Gelabale & P.J Tucker are draft night dark-horses, instant NBA contributors to say the least and are at least high 60's on my roster (Jason Maxiel 71), because a-lot of ratings ur givin to work with are phsyical attributes, I'm left with higher ratings for a lot of players. A lot of players a more complate and nowadays, everyone shoots treys, even Amare to sum extent (maybe just in practice for now)...so it results in higher ratings for a lot of the players. You have to keep in mind that with the rating system in place, it doesn't allow for a real differentiation between the "stars" and the rest like i mentioned before. There are a lot of ratings missing that would really seperate the players. The system is too basic and I haven't seen the Next Gen player rating system for Live 07, although I've read that there are more rating attributes for the players, but that's for us PC users in '08 I guess.

-- Well for he Dynasty mode, it's actually half decent, although I can't seem to get some of the bigger stars to average pts. like their real life stats for ppg. It's all about the big man for the MVP. With a few more additions/changes (i.e. trades, salary negotiations & a few more things...) it can be real solid.

So now, my NBA Live modded, I find myself involved in sum smooth gameplay that I catch myselfy havin fun with for the most part. Although the aforementioned, lack of real post/perimiter play and over-all lack of "authenticity" of real NBA gameplay is VERY obvious as all NBA Lives past, this is as good as gets for now. Believe it or not, I didn't mention a half the things I wanted to just speak on....mostly because the knowledge that the majority of u guyz didn't even open this thread or plain jus closed it after the first line, stopped me from getting even more specific and speaking in more detail and on more topics revalant to me. Those were just a few of my thoughts on Live 07 for those of you who where interested enough to read the whole thing.....

Check out the SUM Supreme Roster thread in 07 Announcements. I'm re-rating every player in the game, top to bottom. Hopefully you like what you see.

I'd have to concur with the majority of what you said. I finally fixed my Quit Game crash to desktop bug by buying the DVD-Rom version of the game (Had the EA Downloader before.. so yep.. I wasted 80 dollars total). With the beta patch and NBA Live 07 being my only option for basketball gameplay on the PC.. I find myself having a blast most of the time.

Not too many games make me want to stand up out of my office chair and do a little dance after I just beat the opposing team by 2 points or such in the last seconds of a intensely contested game. Of course, not too many other games also make me want to punch a hole through my wall as well.
