I played 2K7 for a few days. Live doesn't compare. The dynasty mode (association in 2K7) is much deeper, including different ways to scout rookies such as 1 on 1, shoot around and even 5 on 5 play.
In the game, play wise, it's just as wide a gap. Computer players in 2K7 look for the open man when passing. For people who play locked on one player, 2K7 is terrific. Superstars still score, but they'll find you if you get open and you really feel like part of a game that involves other players. It even allows the locked player to set screens, and has a "player lock" camera that, once you're accustomed to it, makes you really feel as if you're in the game playing.
I put Kobe on the Bulls (traded Wallace and Gordon) and then drafted a rookie center. Thanks to scouting, I was able to find the right center to fit in a team where Kobe could take a lot of the scoring on his shoulders. Both locked on Kobe and locked on the rookie center was more fun than I've had in a basketball game in years.
Kobe was shooting 3's, tough jumpers, and driving to the basket on his own. A number of times I got that rookie center open, and Kobe or Kirk would hit me with a great pass for an easy layup, dunk or baby hook.
In Live, when I play locked I either dominate the scoring or work hard to get one other (computer controlled) player to score. In 2K7, Kobe led the team in scoring, had six assists (mostly to me), rebounded and meanwhile I was third in scoring but led the team in rebounds and blocks.
