Talk about NBA Live 07 here.

The players seem slower than my under 12 girls...

Postby Reubybaby on Wed Oct 11, 2006 4:55 pm

I've been playing the NBA live series since it first came out, and I have to say this game is by far the most disappointing I've played. 82 games? Who on earth would want to play 82 games?
I hope EA fixes this in the patch...
The main question I have though is this - why do the players look like they're jogging? When I'm playing as Barbosa, why can't he catch Payton? He jogs behind him like my Under 12 girls. I don't think this was put into the letter to EA, but I think this seriously needs to go into the game.
They also need to fix the starting lineups - doesn't matter how much % time I give the guys I want to start, it just reverts back to the designated starting lineup. I mean, they have totally overcomplicated this game. Keep it simple, stupid!

82 games in not acceptable. Nobody wants to play that many. You should have a choice like last year.

The option in live 06 to play less games was way better. Not everyone likes to play 82 games in dynasty mode. The CPU nearly always is faster than you regardless of the players speed. You especially encounter this on fast breaks. So it has nothing to do with playing better or not.

Yep, transition defence does not work very well, even opponent´s Big
Men are sometimes faster than my Guards.

I think everyone is missing the point I was trying to make. The play is SLOW. Characters move slowly. If someone gets past you, you can't catch them and it looks like they're jogging. There's no feel like the NBA, which is a fast game.

I always play 82 games and almost always play all the 82 games myself, so no hurt for me, if there no more 29 games forever

Reubybaby, I think the answer you are looking for is that this year EA turned the default game speed WAY down from previous versions of NBA Live. It does make the players appear to jog more, but I feel that it helps provide for a more realistic playing experience. For one, you can't play 12 minute quarters and get realistic stats without keeping the game speed lowered to such a level. If you find it is not to your liking, just go turn the game speed sliders up a bit. Just a note: turning up the game speed does more than just make players faster, it turns the game into a shootout, with teams flying up and down the court. Basically, it turns into a dunk/three point contest.

the problem with with playing 1 on 1 defense is that once that new "guarding closely" animation kicks in, you have no control of your player and the guy you're guarding will just fly right by you.

When I'm playing with Game Speed = 40 (Superstar), this results in 74 FIELD GOAL ATTEMPTS PER GAME for a 28 minute game!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In real life, an NBA team averages around 50 Field goal attempts per game if the game is scaled down to 7 minute quarters. Also, I deliberately leave the speed at 40, otherwise the "jogging" factor u mentioned shows up in the game. I will try other speeds, but this is another annoyance from EA.

Use more of the shotclock. This is not an issue with speed. No matter what the game speed is, you're going to be able to run down the court and pop a shot and you'll finish above league average... so, as I said, use more of the shot clock, and play better defense, forcing the computer to use more of it as well (this will be easier if we can fix the PG drive/pop bug).

I still claim that the PG domination bug doesn't exist. It happens because every team has Shooter A as their default play, and if it gets shut down in any way (i.e. the SG doesn't shoot a jumper from the wing) the ball will usually be passed back to the PG, who has very little time left on the shot clock, and will inevitably take the shot himself. I've rarely seen passes made with 5 seconds or less left on the shot clock, with the obvious exception being passes out of the double team animation.

I wouldn't agree with that.
I've changed the CPU's offensive strategy to other ones, and it didn't really change much...Arenas scored 26 pts in the first half with a Power C strategy for the CPU, so the only thing that worked...was to sub him manually, which is a bitch to do :? :?
I'm pretty sure that there IS a serious PG bug.

I think that Live 07 is much better then previos installations. True that it needs a patch, but it is on its way. As for PG domintation, I would have to agree. I just randomly played a game...Mavs vs Heat and Williams had 25 points at the end of 3 qtrs. Wade on the other hand had 10 and shaq 8. From what I notice, PGs try to go for a layup or shoot a jumper, only after those options are disabled do they attempt to pass the ball. Every game that I have played with different teams, by far PG is the highest scorer for a CPU team.
As for keeping the game simple, I would have to disagree. THe features that EA has added to Dynasty Mode are outstanding and call for a more realistic gameplay. True, they shoud have added "Reorder Lineup" feature, but it is not a huge deal to me. The 82 games dynasty is kind of retarded, I agree. I think there should be an option. I work and I go to school, I do not have 8hrs a day in my hands, I would rather play a shorter 29 game season, it just goes way faster.

thanks someone else who has discovered the SHOOTER A play...its simple,if ur getting burnt by cpu pg's its because u aint really keeping up well with them, i have explained that shooter A play in detail and u summed it up well...there has never been no PG domination, not even in Live 2005

Yep, Under 12 girls. The amount of time it takes for a player to get up the court is crazy. And like I have said, the second a player falls behind (yes, I like to go for steals a lot, so sue me) he can't catch back up unless the opposing point guard stops dead to set up a play - which he never does cause he's open. After playing it extensively last night, I have decided that all the players on the court move at a relative speed to the ball handler, can one of the moderators look at this and tell me whether they think this is true?
I do like the game, and I do believe that with a major patch it could be one great game. But at its release, I am VERY disappointed and am seriously considering returning it, something I have never, ever done. But at the moment, I'm still holding out with some hope...

Bullshit, I think most people here have experienced this issue, which is present whether or not you change CPU's offensive strategy.
It's not a matter of defending badly, it's the game's AI that's flawed.

Yup, PG just run and shot, and shot, and shot - even with my good defence, he maybe dont have many points but he have 95% shots of his team, and that is "great" way to win with cpu easily (i was playing with jimmy act and sliders (superstar, 10 min qtr) but jimmy's act make a offensive rebound bug come back, and i hate it) they just have small score beacuse their pg.

sorry for my bad english

What i end up doing is simulatiing every game basically, i started a fantasy dynasty with the raptors (bosh cant do it all himself) ended up getting Okur, Ray Allen, and Lebron James, (billups and randolph too).

anyways, i usually just simulate the first 3 quarters and if im loosing i will come in and try to overcome the defecit, nothing like lebron feeding the ball to ray for 3pt after 3pt.

it makes it more interesting as well cuz i find i usually slaughter the cpu if i play a full game.
