Talk about NBA Live 07 here.

Lmao... I know i'm not the best NBA Live player in the world but I play ball in real life. IMO it's real easy to tell those who play ball for real versus those who are just video game players...
Ball players - pass the ball around and actually try to get open shots like what would happen in a real game.
Video Gamers - Put a High Flyer at PG then bulldoze the court to try and dunk every play
Ball Players - Plays defence on the ball with a USER CONTROLLED player
Video Gamers - Lets the computer play on-the-ball defence for them and just come over and double-team or just
AFFIX THEIR THUMB TO THE TAKE-CHARGE BUTTON
Maybe I'm bitchin but I play online to get away from the bugs that the cpu has .. (PG primacy etc) not to be reminded of them... PLAY SOME REAL BALL PEOPLE
just a couple...

i agree with you, i use the playbooks more than anything and my offense is all structured on getting my team's scorers to maximise their scoring potential(Im the Nets)....Live06 and Live07 have given me very realistic scores so far and the gameplay is much better than the previous version....now since its a videogame,if u dont play sim u wont get sim results because at the end of the day,the human player is smarter than the AI...and on defense,i take pride in stopping the CPU star from scoring, with my zone and help defense..but to each his own, some just wanna score 200pts with their fave player(which is unsim on the user's part already) and others wanna involve the team(sim)

i guess im a ball player on offense and a video gamer on defense. its so hard to play d this year

totally agree... i play ball and i'm gettin to the point where (after 2days) im pissed at the game because im taking good shots which aren't falling, whereas the computer seems 2 make everything
i always play on ball defense and work an open shot... but it never equals 2 points for me cos the game is so shit

I understand where you are coming from, but the situation is a bit more complex than what you are alluding to. Take into consideration that NBA Live is quickly evolving from a simulation type game into a more arcadish style of play with the recent incorporation of FSS. On-the-ball defense has become much more difficult in Live 07 for defenders without outside stopper or inside stopper capabilites as opposed to 06. It has become nearly impossible to make a steal or play the passing lanes without an outside stopper FSS player. Although I will give credit to EA for improving the capability to block jumpshots (which was an extremely rare occurance in previous reiterations of the series; in Live 06, it seemed that the only shots that could conceivably be blocked were layups and dunks).
One major improvement in this years version of the game is the reduced ability to dominate the game with FSS players; which, initially, was an indication that EA was taking the series into a more arcade-like approach. Fortunately, the FSS dominance has been toned down and allowed EA the ability to reinforce the idea that FSS is intended to provide a sense of player individuality to the stars of the league, rather than allow them to overpower everyone on the court with 40-50 pts. per game.
On-the-ball defense is a major issue for me with NBA Live 07...it has become nearly impossible to make a steal, and even when you contest a jumpshot....it STILL seems to have little impact on the outcome of the shot unless you are able to block the shot entirely. In Live 06, my user-controlled on-the-ball-defense was impeccable, however, it has become quite difficult to translate that same skill level into Live 07. Unfortunately, it seems that I'm forced to rely on taking charges much more than I would like to and I feel that this can be attributed to many of the FSS shots/dunks that will cause the offensive player to literally drive all the way down the lane for a lay in or dunk. If I see the offensive player taking such a shot....why would I not step in and take the charge? It seems to have become the most effective defensive maneuver against such FSS abilities.
Also, the incorporated playbooks in the game have little effect on gameplay, as off-the-ball players rarely adhere to the designated plays and often are completely out of position for the play to be even remotely effective. This causes the offensive player to just play in a manner that will disregard the initially playcall and force them to pass until an open shot is available.

I played Andreas Dahl yesterday and found myself to be the Video gamer on offense and the Baller on defense, i mean it worked, so I didnt diverge from that tactic.

I cant play other people in my household, because they say I play the game too much like a real game. And even without the primacy patch, I have gotten the PG thing under control. When the Animation starts the defender riding the penetrator to the basket, as long as you stay with him and dont break away, he'll usually pick up the dribble. He still takes most of the shots which kinda sucks, but not 40 point outbursts anymore.
Offensive I dont even run plays. I've become quite proficient at the penetration game, in my dynasty ive surrounded my pg with some solid perimeter players, so after i penetrate enough to draw the double team. Its like taking potshots for 15-20 feet. Dynasty tip, PICK UP JJ REDICK. hes a great shooter, and with a clutch rating of 86, he makes some BIG shots for me. I dont even touch freestyle superstar controls. Its cheating to me. just freestyle moves to set up my drives, or jab steps to get guys open.

I am baller on both sides. I defend my man and always try to create a open shot and never use the FSS button.

Your logic is flawed and has no concrete basis.
I have a friend who's a member of the varsity in his college and plays like a "videogamer", maybe because the game gives him opportunities to do what can't be always done in real life.
I'm not a good basketball player (99.99% of the posters in the forum can have their grandma beat me in a real game) yet I play like a "ball player" in videogames.

I really disagree. I'm both worlds. I played from 7th-12th grade (and still play pickup) I'm all about fundamentals and trying for the open shot. But ever notice just because you're open in real life doesnt mean it always goes in? Are you honestly trying to tell me you've never missed open shots? (EDIT:sorry if this wasnt you, i've been reading about people complaining about missing open shots and it ticks me off because they obviously never played in real life)....My next point: video gamers taking charges. I would always take a charge in a real game if i could. Of course i play my real life strategy to my games. When i played i was a guard who passed to the big men. I was a roleplayer not a star. And i play the same way in the game. Defense, i was quick enough to be good and never gave up on plays. The same is true even in a video game. I've succesfully played good D against the computer in this game. You're overgeneralizing my friend. Just cuz you've played crappy people online doesnt mean everyone plays that way. I've played one game online. He was the spurs. i was the suns. He tried to use parker to beat me. I spread the ball around, using amare and marion to drive, and using nash, bell, and diaw for outside shots and assists. Once i started playing decent D i came back from 15 down....so yeah who knows about the PG primacy? thats not the topic at hand. Anyway, I'm a baller on both ends i guess by your definition...but i havent played in about 3 years so i'm more of a gamer

I was really talking about online play not human vs cpu
i've played a couple games online and it's been more or less the same thing... people's idea of defence is pressing the take-charge button and their idea of offence is dribble 3249372 times with their favourite high-speed-high-flyer and go for dunks...
as i said in the first post.. maybe I'm bitching a bit but it's a very much higher percenatge of people (WHO I HAVE PLAYED AGAINST) who do this... I'm not saying I play perfect basketball but yea...
Gamers look to exploit flaws in the video game while ballers will do more things that you'd see in a real game (whether nba or in your neighbourhood park pickup game)

i bet the people you've played have been kids or about that maturity level lol. The tendencies your assigning to gamers is how i used to play nba jam when i was like 7 or 8....

I play ball in real life, and I tend to use the player most like how I would play in real life. I come of alot of screens for shots (like in real life) and drive and dish the ball alot (like real life). Since Im a point guard, In the game I don't usually use the post players a whole lot, they mostly score of picks and penetration dish outs. Sorta wierd when you think about it, I guess I do it subconciously.
