From Bad to Cursed: DVD no longer works

Wed Oct 04, 2006 1:46 pm

Talk about Murphy's Law. While I hate to rant about Live 07 since everyone and their mother already knows the games myraid assortment of problems, I've discovered yet another one, far more serious then any game gltich. . . . . my DVD player no longer fuctions. At first I thought it was a problem with the game disk itself. But I've realized that NBA LIVE 07 has somehow messed up my DVD player. I've had my computer for over a year and NEVER had a single problem with my DVD player until the day I put live 07 in the drive. Now not only does Live not work, but neither do any of my other PC games. To say I'm pissed would be an understatement. I've found out that not only do my games not work, my movies won't even start up either. And once again all this started the day I installed LIVE 07. I don't know if they sent me a defective DVD or what but I wonder has anyone else had these problems with LIVE? Anyway EA Sports will be getting one hell of a letter from me.

Uninstall and reinstall your dvd drivers. Also if you are using nero you will need to update those as well. I had the same problem and that fixed it.

and if that fails try updating/reflashing your dvd drive's firmware.

Not necessarily...

Back in the day I had a CD kill two of my CD rom drives... granted it was almost 10 years ago, but still.

a disc cannot harm your DVD drive just from reading it... unless the disk had a virus which you ran which deleted your dvd drivers...

like someone sed^ its silly to say a disk has broke your DVD drive cos its impossible

I second that. CD's and DVD's cannot kill a drive unless they're covered in mud and you jam it into the tray. I'd try to unplug, start up machine, shut down, plug in again, and restart. This forces Windows to reinstall the drivers. Also, see if the motor still spins (you can hear the disc speeding up after you close the tray). If not, that's your problem and NBA Live did not break your motor.

I think your computer determined that the game was toxic to the computer and you so in an emergency measure it decided to self destruct its dvd drive so you could never play that trash again. Damn, that's a smart computer. (On a serious note, it's impossible that the NBA Live DVD destroyed your DVD drive.)

I think its just playing sick until he gives up trying to get the game running.

I should add that to the bugs list: Some DVDs causes the drive to malfunction.

Joking, joking.

Well to update everyone on my situation it has been confirmed my DVD player needs to be replaced. I spoke with a representative from Dell on the phone for 2 1/2 hours trying a variety of things to get my DVD player working again. . . . and none of them worked. From updating the drivers, to checking my system properties, to even unistalling NBA LIVE, none of it worked. Once again I NEVER had any problems with my DVD drive until I installed LIVE last week. For all those who say it's impossible for a DVD to wreck your dvd-rom drive, I say its not impossible because I witnessed it first hand and it was no coincidence that the day I install live my dvd no longer works or functions all of the sudden. Say what u will, but my faith in EA Sports and their products has been severly decreased.

Maybe, it was just YOU who destroyed ur own DVD drive..
Think first what you have done.
Maybe you forced it to eject while it was hardly reading a Disk. It happened to me too, but not NBA Live DVD..
