Help! I can't figure out this controller issue NBA Live PC

Help! I can't get my controller working properly with the game. Here is my setup:

NBA Live 2007 for the PC
Microsoft Branded XBOX 360 Corded USB Controller
XBCD with XBOX 360 Drivers

The problem is that I cannot get the left and right trigger buttons to work. In the XBCD setup utility the triggers show up as axis but in the game I somehow need them to be buttons so I can use them for speed burst.

Any suggestions?

Also, I temporarily mapped speed burst to a working button but I don't notice a change of speeds at all.
