After Reading The Next-Gen Preview On IGN...

Wed Aug 16, 2006 4:44 am

it seems as if they're implying with the next-gen create a player...there will be enough pre-loaded names to have them say your FIRST and LAST name...do you feel this to be true?

Wed Aug 16, 2006 4:55 am

No. I have a very forein first and last name. I doubt they'll have it unless they are able to say the most common names from every country in the world.

Wed Aug 16, 2006 5:29 am

They probably did what 2k did, if you have the same first name as someone already in the game they'll say your first name, and if you have the same last name as someone in the game, they'll say your last name and then they just put the 2 together.
Example: Kevin Hinrich (Kevin Garnett, Kirk Hinrich put together)

keith duncan should be too hard for the game

Wed Aug 16, 2006 8:19 am

it will be nice to hear the rookies called by thier names though, i dont think anyone in the nba has my name but i never create myself anyway so it dont bother me much.

Wed Aug 16, 2006 8:42 am

They should do what they did for NCAA Football 07. They say custom names.

Wed Aug 16, 2006 8:56 am

In 2k6 it's so cool that feature. The PA announcer can say: Marcus Williams, Adam Morrison, Sergio Rodríguez... and even CARLTON BANKS ! :D

My last name is never in any games, (except maybe NCAA football because my last name is the nickname for a college team). It would be cool if you could send in your name to EA and get Marv or Steve to say your name and then you could download it when you go online. Something like the custom face thing they have on the Tony Hawk games, where you take a photo of your face, send it to them and then you can dowload it when online. I know this would probably never happen, but it would be so cool especially for people with uncommon names.

They'll pronounce surnames but not first names.

lol , my name its Alejandro too :D , but my surname Defrancesco ( very very very strange :P )

I think the idea of mixing the already in game names , its cool for the generated rookies ! , hope live 07 and next lives dont have players with the surname " Hsu "

How come 2k doesn't get licensing issues when they include "michael" as a create-a-player first name and then "jordan" as a last name? EA needs to do something about this next year.

So, what do the arena announcers say when those guys hit a big shot or get subbed in or commit a foul?

Wed Aug 16, 2006 1:46 pm

Maybe they'll say something like "Foul On Williams" Or "Williams For Three" . . .They can actually get away with that

Wed Aug 16, 2006 1:49 pm

Yeah, better than "Numberrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 12. For 3." I've had the arena announcer turned off for the last few years. I've missed that old guy. Be good to hear his dulcet tones again. :D

Wed Aug 16, 2006 2:06 pm

That's the reason why I couldn't go into second year of my dynasty last year. . it was full of rookies. I didn't even know who was scoring on me

Wed Aug 16, 2006 2:23 pm

yeah, i'm the same. if i dont pay so much attention to scouting every single rookie in the draft, i wouldnt have a clue who was who. and even then, all those 6'1 shooting guards begin to look the same after a while.

Because that's not actually including a player in the default rosters that even slightly resembles Michael Jordan.

They'll call them by their surname only.

I have a some-what regular last name and it is never in any games.
It's Parham.
When I go to make my player I am so mad that I have to give him another last name or have them no say it and say his no..

It seems the original question got lost in the fray from the original reply...

Thu Aug 17, 2006 2:34 pm

Games should have a programmed pool of rookies, it's annoying to hear "Number ____" over and over.

Thu Aug 17, 2006 10:29 pm

Something is better than nothing guys. ;)

Im sure that dynasty will be played longer this year than in others gone by because of surnames being announced.

And we can at least take some stock in the fact that this WAS an issue raised on the wishlist which has since been tended to... gives hope for the future when we ask for first names to be pronounced.

;)

The use of the pool of last names for created players and generated rookies that's in the game this year should improve that though.
