Jersey patching problem-Look! Pics!!!

Mon Feb 26, 2007 6:41 am

I'm trying to make my first jersey patch, for a fictional team I created, using Crappystuff's jersey tutorial. The problem is that I am using the GIMP, not Photoshop to edit the files. I have managed to find a .dds plug-in for the GIMP, so I've gotten that far. What I can't figure out how to do is take my jerseyALPHA.bmp file and paste it on the ALPHAChannel of the .dds file. If anyone has any info regarding this, it would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Ok, so apparently what I need to do is create a layer mask on the alpha channel, do whatever it is I need to do to the Alpha channel to get it to at least resemble my jerseyALPHA.bmp file, and then apply the layer mask. That's all fine and great, except that I have no idea what to do the make the layer mask like the jerseyALPHA.bmp

EDIT 2: If someone is willing to merely edit the .dds file for me so that the alpha channel is done properly, I would be more than happy to send all the requisite files.

NOTE: This is also my first time using the GIMP for anything other than image file conversions.

EDIT 3: I decided to proceed without actually solving the alpha channel problem, just to see what would happen. Well, aside from FshX not wanting to import my .dds file (which I replaced instead with a my jersey's finished .bmp file), everything seemed to be working fine.

But upon closer inspection...

I knew about the shitty cropping, and planned on fixing it afterward, as well as the logo interfering withe number. But the size!? WTF? As far as I know I used all the right settings (i.e. 256x256). I repeat, WTF?

need to edit with fshx but then it is better to import files in png mode

for yourjersey preview,it is a size pb.

Cable guy is a very good jersey patcher, you should ask him to help you (Y)

Yeah, the layer mask in gimp is correct. You know your doing it right if alot of the jersey disappears making it look transparent. Then you should save it as a PNG file. You can import png files with FSHx, but you have to type in the name of the png in the import dialog box.

Also, use JPEG's instead of GIF's for your screenshots. GIF's have worse quality then JPEG's and are much biger in filesize.

Thanks guys. Much appreciated. (Y)

And for the record, I was under the impression GIF's were smaller, that's why I was using them. I knew they looked crappier. But I'll certainly revert back to JPEG with that knowledge.
