how do i execute touch passes in the game?

Never watched the tutorial ingame?
While the ball is in the air, press your pass-button again and the direction.

The previous poster is giving the default answer found in the manual. It doesn't work for me either. I've tried to press pass pass fast with direction and it doesn't go anywhere. At best, I can get the middle guy to catch, hold for 1-2 seconds, and then pass to the next guy. So it's not really a touch pass. It'd be so cool to be able to do this when you actually want to.
Perhaps the first pass has to be to a guy with a good pass rating? Can someone check this?

the touch passes are a piece of crap for me, they seem to do them even when i dont want them to
