double team

Fri Nov 10, 2006 7:22 pm

Hi, guys. I've been playing through lan with my officemate (He uses Phoenix while I use Cleveland) for the last 2 weeks. And for the past two weeks I have been kicking his ass. He beat me once by exploiting the 3pt FSS of Nash, but I countered it by using a taller defender. Recently though, he has been using double team when he is on denfence. Not only do they double team Lebron or Z, but they double team all of my players! And he lets the AI guard my ballhandler and I found it hard to pass to an open man, since even Nash intercepts my pass!

I think this is an exploit. And I can't even give him a taste of his own medicine since his PF and C always outruns mine.

Any ideas on how to counter this? Am I wrong? Is this "natural"?

The general rule in basketball is that if a player is double teamed, that means another player is open. Since he's choosing to run double teams at whoever gets hold of the ball I'd suggest making quick, smart passes so that the ball is ahead of the double team which should give your players some room to work with.

Running the pick and roll might also be helpful, especially when it comes to eluding a defender controlled by the CPU.

You won't be able to match speed with him up front since he's using Phoenix and thus has Amare Stoudemire and Shawn Marion at his disposal. You won't be able to employ that strategy as effectively with Drew Gooden and Zydrunas Ilgauskas.
