Is this game really bad as the reviews say?

Sun Oct 01, 2006 4:11 am

read subject.

Sun Oct 01, 2006 4:13 am

Basically.. yeah.. If you've bothered to look around, there's a shitload of problems with the game.

Sun Oct 01, 2006 4:15 am

yeah would not recommend buying it

Sun Oct 01, 2006 4:20 am

no, i wouldnt care less who reviews the game...u make that decision by renting..Live07 is nowhere as bad as some ppl are making it out to be,only because of 2 freaking sliders this game is the worst ever? ....

Sun Oct 01, 2006 4:23 am

Do you realise that the CPU not subbing breaks the game? You can not have realistic match-ups. So much for EA's realism but fun attitude towards the game.

Well, that's not really the only issue... :?

the structure of the game is fantastic, REALLY improved, probable the best nba live till now.... BUT... there are so many serious bugs that make it unplayable.

I recommend renting, because for everybody here who is claiming it's the worst game ever, quite a few are overreacting, and a large portion haven't even played the game. It's just a bandwagon jumping issue. I myself, and several others, enjoy the game quite a bit, and feel that with some patches, it will be a great game -- the best Live ever.

So, I recommend renting and seeing for yourself if this is something you'd like to purchase.

Sun Oct 01, 2006 4:30 am

Its not half as bad as people make it seem. It actually is very playable as long as you dont go into it thinking it will be the "perfect" game solely for "you".

I personally may not play it again just because I have grown to love other sports just as much if not more than basketball....and also because I cant bother reinstalling it.

I'd say give it a shot. Test it out if you like but if your not super anal in pointing out every minute fault then you will find it somewhat entertaining.

exactly man,its more like theres a flooding of 2Kfanboys who havent even played the game and hopping on the bangwagon but i appreciate their efforts lol....the more ppl who sign up for the petition, the better and faster EA responds..MANUALLY SUB FOR CPU till a patch is released, the gameplay itself is fantastic and if EA releases the fatigue and substitution slider, this will be the best Live ever

I hope you guys realize that this game shouldn't be that buggy out of the box as it is now.

Live 06 had it's annoying bugs and gameplay issues, but it was still playable! There were CPU subs and other things occuring. PG domination was there but so what, you could still play a dynasty without having to sub for the other team.

I don't mind any of the other bugs that have been spotted and such, but how can you not pick up the substituion bug during testing! Sheesh! Maybe if they played 12 minute quarters instead of 2 minute quarters, they could've found the problem.

The sub bug makes the game annoying as you have to stop and switch controllers and do subs then switch back and play again, this should be CPU controlled.

Sun Oct 01, 2006 4:37 am

if EA releases a patch for the things we cant fix, and we get past the texture barriers (which is only a matter of time) this will be the best live IMO. I dont have any issues with the game so far (I dont sub) and Im having a great time with all the new animations and intensity meter.

Just if you get it, make sure you can return it for a full refund.

Oh yah, and NextGen absolutly sucks, that one is fucked, I returned it and I even liked last years Next gen game

^^ Well said.

I find the game very playable, and enjoyable. To each their own. Is the game perfect? No. Neither is any game; not even - gasp - 2K7.

As I said, with one or two patches, this game is incredible. Right now I'm still enjoying it.

Rent it.

Sun Oct 01, 2006 4:38 am

The problem is "if". Graphics-wise, the game is playable (meaning that your eyes do not bleed while looking at it).

Sun Oct 01, 2006 4:39 am

Well, one could just call you "fanboy" especially with that username. But that gets no one anywhere and tries to ignore the real problems. The biggest problem is that CPU won't even SUB FOR ITSELF. That and the multitude of other errors are infact covering up the real game. But the fact of the matter for the real game is that it's a piece of trash even without the bugs. The reason people are touting 2K series is because it's the better basketball game and has been since it's release, EA came close in 2005 but they've drifted apart since then. In the current gen, EA is using the same engine they built four years ago just tacking more on-top of instead of fixing the underlying problems.

Just because without the bugs that broke the game it may be "the best Live ever" (even if in comparison to it's competition it performs worse than previous games did against their competition) doesn't mean it's a good game. That's like saying this is the best bowl of hemlock I've ever eaten.

Sun Oct 01, 2006 4:41 am

I've noticed this seems to be more and more of a bandwagon thing with saying the game sucks. Personally Im still pretty excited about getting it. Thus far the only major problem I've seen is the CPU sub thing which doesnt bother me for these reasons.

1.I play 5 minute quarters, theres little sense in subbing anyone, its been a nice touch in some of the other franchises games ive played like inside drive and 2k, but i dont demand it.
2.The CPU has never subbed their team excepting injury and foul trouble in any live game ive ever played
3. I dont really care if the CPU doesnt sub players, I dont play computer games for realism I play to be entertained.

I understand some people obviously will be mad with the subs problem, especially the hardcore PC users on here and if the 82 game bug is in the xbox version ill be pretty pissed off too. The sig shots thing also didnt bother me because i dont really care if shawn marion does chest pass shots, it makes no difference to me.

I guess I just dont demand as much realism from the game as the rest of you but I do say to everyone who hasnt got the game yet (as I havent) to give it a chance. The PC version seems pretty fucked, but stuff thats been mentioned like dunking from a stand still from too far out and phantom steals have been happening on the console version since i picked it up in 04.

I agree with dadamafia here, in that the game cannot be as bad as people are making out.

and with keyboard you cannot call the tactics... (N)

Nobody is denying that,it gets annoying controlling how many minutes the CPU gets..u can either return the game and not have to deal with EA's fuckup or work a way around this bug until a patch is released

I've played this game and it sucks and it's an insult for every member of the Live's fanbase, for the people that supported this series for the last decade or so. I agree, this would probably be the best Live ever, IF there weren't any bugs. I would recommend you to buy the game IF I knew the problems will be solved. But being the best Live ever doesn't mean much. 2k series is still leagues better. Saying that this WILL be the best Live ever says even less. As far as we know, there won't be any patches and our patchmakers do not have the tools to fix all of the Live's problems. As of now, this game is crap and unplayable. Buy the game only after (and if) a patch is released, a patch that will solve all or at least most of the game's problems. If not, then buy 2k7 (if you own a console) or sign a petition to bring 2k8 to the PC (http://www.nbaliveforums.com/ftopic41939.php) and play Live 06 in the meanwhile.

Well I hate to say it, but I'm just not feeling Live this year. I will still get it for PC for the patches and other type of things, but once I get my 360, it's not thing but 2k7. I can't deal with Live anymore. I rented both games on PS2 and IMO, 2k7 blew Live out the water.

2K is better than Live only on the next gen,i dont see how 2K on the current gen is any better than Live07 with or without the fatigue/cpu substitution slider...have u even played both games?

Sun Oct 01, 2006 5:06 am

if youre all honest though the 2k series has always dicked on Live every year. I just prefer live because its less realistic, an easier game to just pick up and play and the gameplay seems to just flow better. 2k5 is in my xbox right now, but its always seemed to be more clunky to play than live. I dunno Im a live fanboy i guess but I got the sense to not only buy one game, I've got both of them coming to me this year on release day.

You completely missed the point. The only thing that matters is: Live is worse than its competition on any platform. Live 07 on PS2 will be worse than 2k7 on PS2 simply because PS2 version cannot be patched. Live in its current state is a flawed product and therefore no one should buy it. It's common sense. You don't buy something hoping that it will get better. You wait and see if it actually improves, in this case, if patch is actually released and if it is, will it remove all or at least most of the problems. If there is no patch, there is no reason for you to buy this game. In this state, it's a bad game and waste of money. Like I said, if they don't release the patch, you'd be better off just playing 06/buying 2k7 for a console and signing the petition.

your a patcher right lemme know if this wrong...isnt it possible for us the console users to get patches via the internet when we connect online to play the game if EA is to make a patch for it?if thats not the case then its really fucked up
