i read in a thread that its not in live. is this true? or is only for next gen?

It is in both but more so in next-gen, for instance the ESPN ticker can only be found in the next-gen version

The ticker covers every sports story out, so like if you're playing the 360 version right now it will mention T.O.'s alleged attempt at suicide.
