Question about passing

I've heard several people mention something about direct passing and the buttons being mixed up or something, but my question is how do you throw the ball to the player closest to the basket? Last year, you just tapped L2, but I have PS2 and I can't figure it out to save my life:? It tells you how to do it in the manual that comes with the game (Is it just me or are these things getting smaller and smaller every year?) but I just can get it to work. Why does EA have to change the control scheme almost every year?

P.S. please tell me that this problem is just a case of me not being able to figure it out and not another bug

Right now nobody is sure how to do the outlet pass, nor how to do the switch to last defender, which were previously the tap L2 function.

The direct pass works differently this time around. Pressing the L2 button on offense will assign buttons to your team members. You then press the corresponding button to pass to whoever you want. On defense, pressing L2 button will switch to the last man back AND at the same time assign buttons. You press L2 again to dismiss the assignment and keep the the icon on the last man back.

It took me a while to figure this out. And the game isn't that great to me anymore. Had i known, i wouldn't have purchased the game.

I don't think I only speak for myself saying that switching to the last defender DOESN'T WORK. I have a rumblepad2, I never had trouble with all the previous Live, and although the manual mentions it, it just doesn't work in '07.
