Why do so many people on here play the PC Version?

Postby elitethatsme on Wed Sep 06, 2006 3:40 am

I notice that a lot of people tend to prefer the PC version of NBA Live... I Have never played it and am currently using XBOX.... my question is why do you choose it over the game systems and have you actually played it on the game systems and whats the difference? is this something i should look into? :?:

Playing for PC allows massive amount of patching and modding of the game in order to produce a more realistic version. From things like higher resolution and redesigned cyberfaces, to a complete accurate shoe patch, to changing the gameplay via the aiact, to changing the entire menu overlay, score/stat overlays, music, etc. there are many boundaries that have been broken down with the PC version. That is why I, and many others, choose to play it, over a console version.

Gameplay would be by default, identical to any current gen game -- PS2 or XBox.

thats impressive..... I remember i played nba live 2000 or one of those really old ones for the computer and the game play was really lagging and akward.. i take it they have fixed all that now... If its the same as XBOX i might have to concider it!... Do you need a super fast computer or anything like that?

Super fast, no. I have something like a 2.4 gig processor, 768 megs of RAM, and a 5500 256 mb video card, and I play the game as smoothly as a console. I imagine it could play the same with a lesser rig, too, though I'm not really the person to ask for that...

1. rooster update

2. better graph, than PS2, dunno XBOX and don't care about it also

3. i don't like consols, pc is much better, and i think lots of here with PC-s play only NBA Live, so no point buying a consol for only one game

but these are my reasons

reason i play the pc version is simple, i use a pc for everything therefor i always have 1 available. to play the console games i would have to go out and buy new hardware on top of the game. on top of that i would have to use up a T.V. that most likly one of my children is already using.

i usually dont update anything on my version of live so thats never been a concern of mine. so its pretty much all a convience thing with me.

The big reasons I play it on PC:

1. Can't really afford to buy a Xbox 360, and since ive spent so much money on my current system I might as well make use of it.

2. Patching, I love the game more on the higher resoltuions with nice Face patches etc installed. Also its much easier to updating rosters, and out of game tweaking such as DBF editing.

3. Dynasties, its so much easier being able to take screens on the PC for my Dynasty Stories, although now that I think about it, it would be possible to run a console through the computer and just use FRAPS to take screens, but that again brings me back to point 1.

because at one time, graphics on the computer were far superior to the consoles plus console gaming (and online console gaming) wasn't as big back then. oh and that patching thing (Y). whenever a team would change jerseys or logos, it was nice to have it all in the game.

Most of the reasons have been stated already, but the fact is that the PC does not occupy your television. If you have other people living with you, this can be a problem. And also if you really want to watch/follow something on the telly, you can just have it on next to you. <- Used to do this a lot. Not any more though, as the TV is in another room.

I have never really been a heavy patcher, but I do take advantage of Andrew's great roster patches, as I like to get players with realistic ratings in the game. Usually the rookies are all messed up and nothing like their real counter parts. Like Chris Paul was barely a mediocre player in Live 06 original rosters.

Then there are the graphics... The higher resolutions enable you to see more of the court during gameplay, thus you have a better picture of the situation on offense and defense. Thus there is a gameplay difference. Isn't it annoying when you can't see the whole court with lower resolutions???

And basically the reason why so many of us play on the PC is that we are old... The guys that have been playing Live since the early days (I have since 95) have PCs. The game was awful with older consoles and back then we were young and didn't have the cash. Now that we are old, we have other needs besides NBA Live 07 for our systems, like MS Office software and other things, surfing the internet and playing other games as well. So we are the PC generation. The PC is the only machine with which you can easily do all these things... Some of us old guys are into patching and those are pretty hard to make with an XBOX... I have a PC since I've had a PC since 1987 or something...

So I'm saying that most of us play PC version, since one of those machines is always around... Either your parents have or have had it when you were young and thus it was easier to get a game than a whole new system and a game from your parents... But that was back in the old days...

I guess ease of editing has to be number one. You can make trades and create a limited amount of missing players on the console versions but you can't edit their hidden values (or those of the original players for that matter). Last year that was a huge advantage for the PC version with the Primacy issues. Then of course you've got the larger mods such as National Teams, Euroleague and the NBL add-on. Also, the ability to save boxscores, stats and screenshots makes it much easier to do a Dynasty thread in my opinion.

I'd also say I prefer PC for the loading times since the most up to date console I own is a PS2. I usually pick a PS2 version of the game for two player games with my cousin but for single player mode I'm a PC player.

I've played Live in consoles all my life, until last year. I decided in Feb 2005 to buy Live 2005 for PC (I already had it for Game Cube, but it was so choppy) and it really was a great decision. I mean, I always tried to have updated rosters and players with their real accessories, but in the console I was very limited.

My suggestion is if you are not obsessed with rosters and accesories of the game, buy the game for the console, because it's more confortable, and you don't have typical windows crashes (well, I never had them, but I know some people who did), you can play with some controlers on a sofa in a big TV screen. Buy only the PC version if you're a daily NBA fan and you have a good two-analogs joypad.

That's all, I hope I can help you :P

im very interested in this it sounds like something i would like but what im really concerned about is the actual game play and smoothness of it compared to a xbox.... Can someone who has extensively played it on PC and Xbox/PS2 comment on the differences/similarities when it comes to gameplay... the controller issues etc?

Gameplay would be identical for both pc and xbox. only difference would beif you don't use a controller on the PC and if your PC doesn't have the right specs for the game which really isn't much considering what other games require
