From this article...
On top of that, player ratings have jumped from 25 categories to 75. Everything from vertical jump to first step to aggressiveness has a number attached as EA works to differentiate each and every player out on the court.

 50 new ratings! That is awesome. Such a little mention; such a big factor.

I'm really excited about that. Player rating is one of my favourite things involved with video games. Can anybody confirm whether this will happen for current-gen?

Not sure it will be on current-gen although I dont see any reason why it wouldnt. Sounds like a great addition but can you imagine how long it will take to update a single player much less an entire team? Damn.

Noooooooo! Source? Clutch rating is definitely in the game and something also has to influence the overall chemistry.

It sucks if it's true. I was really looking forward to this. One thing I really hated in the previous versions was, that you have to artificially lower player's rating to make his overall rating more realistic. Gerald Wallace and Shawn Marion, athletic players who do it all, had much better overall rating than someone like Nash.

If current gen plays better than next, it's pretty ridiculous. They should make that for both though since the gameplay itself doesn't seem to differ that much at this point.

at least Next Gen is getting something....as we should (Y) don't know why PC doesn't get it though, it can definitely handle it....

Unfortunately, the zone replaces the X-Factor from current gen, and I actually prefer the idea of the X-Factor a lot more. With the X-Factor, you can make a guy like Robert Horry a superstar, heating him up throughout the game, then unleashing him to hit the buzzer beater. Getting a player like Wade in the zone so he can perform a cool dunk might look sweet, but I think Horry getting red hot at the end of the game is a lot more valuable.

I'm almost ready to cry if this is true....please Andrew, tell me this is not true....there is no way in hell that EA could be that stupid to leave out X-Factors from next gen....it would be disgraceful....

It'd be nice to see current gen. get even a fraction of those new ratings. I'm looking forward to seeing exactly what, if any advances we get there. Part of the love of the PC version for me is editing rosters and creating my own set. (Y)

Can you guys explain a little bit about player rating? ANd I don't really notice anything different from one player to the next in live 06. is it really effective?

Well, I read it in a review on either the IGN forum or the official NBA Live 07 forum. But hey, none of them are known for their rock solid info (as well as being a retirement place for our banned users) so there's still a chance...

It's true.

that's a shame....I'm now gonna wait for reviews before I buy this game....it's not a gimme anymore....it's just disappointing that because there are 2 different producers, it seems one version gets a good feature & the other doesn't....same thing is happening with Madden 07 which I now won't get for 360....I'm sure I can live without X Factor, I just wanted players like Nocioni & Horry to be big-time factors down the stretch....I really wanted to create myself & make myself an X Factor type player....who knows, depending on reviews, I might be 'forced' to get this game on PC :(

They'll probably still be factors down the stretch because of their clutch ratings and the "in the zone" feature but I like the idea of them being able to gain Star moves temporarily with the X-Factor feature. Right now I have no choice but to get Current Gen (which doesn't bother me too much because I prefer playing Live on PC) but I am thinking of starting a "Get Andrew a 360 or donate money so he can buy one" campaign for my birthday which is coming up in less than two months, so I may end up getting both. ;)

What is "in the zone" feature, how does it work and how does it replace X Factor?? And I hope you can raise enough money to get the 360. 360 is unreal and overwhelming. I'm playing Oblivion right now, and everything is awsome about the game and system. There is so much potential off this system that you won't get on PC. I might be playing Live on 360, but after reading some of these reviews I may get 2K7 on 360 and Live 06 on PC.

I don't know all that much about it since I spent more time with the Current Gen version at the Community Day but as I understand it, you can get a player "in the zone" by keeping him in the offense throughout the game so he's in a rhythm come crunch time. In that respect it's similar to X-Factor (since that's how you get an X-Factor player to activate his X-Factor abilities) but unlike X-Factor which only applies to certain players and gives them Star moves temporarily, "in the zone" would appear to apply to all players and doesn't give them any additional abilities (though they do play better).
