Height and weight are the official player measurements, but what about having wingspans?
Sometimes there's more to the story as to why certain players are so good.
Players like Diop, Mutumbo and rookie Saer Sene, even though they have little skill, their wingspans are mammoth. And players like JJ Reddick and Yao Ming have smaller wingspans (relative to their height).
Marion is extremely undersized for the power forward position, but it's his bouncy athleticsm and enormous length that make up for it. Prince is one of the better defenders in the league because his freakish length covers more angles.
Maybe instead of having the exact measurement (i.e. Saer Sene's wingspan is 7'8", and he is 7'0"... so relative to his height his length is fucking huge... the average wingspan is usually about 2 inches more than your height i think (jj reddick's wingspan is less than his height lol.. which is basically unheard of... which means, with his lack of athletiscm AND lack of length, he's gonna be a sucky 1-on-1 defender (though smart team defence is a different thing, but thats for another story))) Anyway, instead of having exact measurements, you could just have the field "wingspan" and have the option of small, standard, or long (relative to their height) when creating a player.
With the next-gen basketball games coming out... little details like this are possible.
I think it would add a new dimension to scouting prospects in the game too. As you would be able to take this into account for players undersized for their position. I.e. do they have length to make up for it? Will their short wingspan severely hurt their perimeter defense? etc.
Thoughts?
