Maybe EA should have a year off...

Talk about NBA Live 07 here.

Maybe EA should have a year off...

Postby Scotty on Fri Jun 02, 2006 4:37 pm

i was thinking... seeing they're always trying to bring their game out as soon as possible-which is obviously not working, maybe they should have a year off to learn and improve the game. It's obviously a bit late now, but i think a year off could have done them good.....
what do you think?

They didn't take a year off in 2002, they just didn't release the game for PC. It was available on every other format.

Jae, you should know very well that I know that...

But saying to EA that don't release it for any platforms for a year would certainly make them loose more ground with the competitors...

I've seen this suggestion 1000 times... they won't do it, they want the money.

Yep, especially with the 2K series becoming so good. Even if the new Live sucks, they have to keep the name fresh in peoples minds.

Didn't EA's MLB series take a year off and get revamped and return under a different name to acclaim from fans and critics alike? I think the idea has its merits but on the other side of the coin there's a lot of people who would be disappointed there isn't some sort of update for each season.

Although time constraints no doubt play a factor I don't think it's necessarily the biggest issue nor do I agree with the somewhat disrespectful suggestion that the development team is lazy. I think the main issue is approach and focus. For example, Freestyle Superstars was a good idea and a step forward in total player control but little was done to other key elements of the game that are a big part of the NBA Live experience. I think there's also the tendency to change things that don't need to be changed, like making ratings and attributes hidden where they get recalculated and subsequently messed up. The old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" adage would certainly seem to apply in those situations.

If the 2K series are gonna be released for PC, then EA's popularity will go down and the only good game they'll ave is Madden!

For clarification, EA never took a year off with their baseball game. They merely renamed it to fic the "year" issue(Triple Play 2000 was released in 99, Triple Play 2001 in 2000, Triple Play Baseball(the year fix) in 2001, then Triple Play 2002.

"The PC baseball-gaming audience is an elusive creature. For some reason, the number of people who buy baseball games for the PC has been relatively small, despite the number of things we’ve done over the years to create a smash hit for the PC: Manager Mode, Online Play, Legendary Players, etc. But nothing so far has made much of a dent. So what we’re doing now—and what you’re noticing now—is rethinking our approach: our designs, our philosophies, our strategies, our feature sets… And we’re going to come back with a game made specifically for the PC. It will be a more serious effort than we’ve ever made before to satisfy the PC user, and I’m looking forward to the day we can unveil it"

Then they came out with a completely new game MVP Baseball, which is the shit.

I don't think EA should or will ever take a year off. However, at this point in the development in the NBA Live series, I would still buy a "bug fix" as long as it had some bells and whistles to make it fresh so that they could concentrate more time on the next version.

possibly if they did take a year off then people might be bursting to buy the next one that comes out. Lets say they went from Live 2004 to Live 06 and skipped Live 2005, that would be a good jump(even though 2005 was great :D ) but because they didn't do that i didn't find Live 06 much of a jump from 2005 at all, so there wasn't really to much point in buying it- know what i'm saying.....

Look, if 2k sports can improve their games by leaps and bounds every new iteration, there is no reason a MUCH MUCH larger company such as EA cannot do the same!
Bored.
