How to Convert 08 Rosters to 06?

Postby PML17 on Mon Oct 29, 2012 1:08 pm

Can anyone tell me how to convert a 08 roster to 06? I found a 2012-13 roster on the new nba56 forum and would like to use it for 06.

Basically, you have to edit the databases so that they match the 06 databases, ie add fields that were present in 06 but removed by 08 and fill in the data accordingly. 06 also uses different dunk package values which are tied into Freestyle Superstars abilities, so those need to be changed. It's a somewhat involved process and definitely something I wouldn't recommend if you're a novice with DBF editing.

I see. I pretty good with editing .dbf's, so I might know what I doing. BTW, do you happen to know which ones need to be removed/added?

There's a couple around the draft class/salary information from memory. You really only have to adjust players.dbf, add those missing columns and fix the dunk packages. You'll probably also want to have the game recalculate all the ratings. It's actually not a bad idea to reset everyone's FSS fields (SUPERSTAR and VALIDSSTAR) to zero to remove their FSS abilities, then use Edit Player to recalculate all their ratings. This will also assign appropriate dunk packages for players who will be assigned FSS movesets, at which point you can edit them further as desired.

You should be able to copy coaches.dbf, teams.dbf and nicknames.dbf without any problem, too (just overwrite whatever you've got in the saves folder). You can copy teamgear.dbf but you might find you've got some missing jerseys and jersey files for 08 aren't instantly compatible with 06. You can always remove entries from teamgear.dbf using Excel or OpenOffice by deleting the necessary rows; just be sure to save in the correct .dbf (DBASE IV) format if you do. Or you can use the NBA Live 08 Editor, which has NBA Live 2005-07 functionality.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head for the moment, but I'll try to answer any other questions you might have if you're giving it a shot. If I can get enough info out here, I might be able to cobble it together into a rough guide or tutorial.

So, it looks like the only columns missing from the 08 roster is 'ROOKIERNK2' and 'GRADCLASS'. How do I copy those from the old 06 roster to the converted one?

I generally use Excel 2003 for that (you could also use OpenOffice). Insert a new column in the appropriate places, called ROOKIERNK2 and GRADCLASS, assign values of zero for everyone.

Thanks. Two things :
1.)How can I export the files?
2.)How do I import the .csv after adding the columns
3.) After that, do I just load it up in game?

EDIT

Figured out #1. Didn't see it at first...

Always save in the same DBASE IV format, otherwise you'll render the database unusable.
