06 or 08?

Talk about NBA Live 06 here.

06 or 08?

Postby jonathonmchugh on Wed May 06, 2009 7:13 pm

I have both versions of the game and I have read on here that a lot of people prefer 08 over 06. Both have their pros and cons. I don't really like 06 because it lacks a back down. Maybe you can use the back down in 06 I might not know how. 06 definitely runs better on my laptop. In 2k9 you had the option to have the play art on the court whenever you call a play. Is there anyway possible this is in 06. Is there some sort of patch or something. Also, Is there a player lock in 06. I knew there was one for 08 but I didn't see one for 06. I just wanted to get some of your thoughts on this. Especially Andrew. Sorry if this is already on the board.

bock down in 06 and in 07 is done by holding down on the right analog stick

in 06, you can get play art on the court...if you play on rookie

player lock was a feature until 08 (for some reason) so yes, there is playerlock, you set it up by clicking on your controller in the team select screen
Opinions are my own.

I still consider 06 to be the superior release as far as the PC version is concerned. With a bit of tweaking it can play pretty well as a sim oriented game as well as a more arcade style if you prefer and on the whole it has far fewer frustrating bugs/issues.

06 has introduce the Fresstyle thingy the NBA Live series has now (I don't know if it still in 09) but i was unstoppable to the point where you can get easy points by just using the Power FS or the Highflyer FS. Yeah, as Andrew said this is the last good release in PC.

07 is a good game with the FSS being toned down and you can exchange it if the player has multiple FSS but the PG domintion, no subs, broken sim engine, and some bug/glitches make it a bad game.

08 has GTM and sig shots and thats the only good point of 08, it retains the 07 buggy flaws.

Every game has received a big update so far in NLSC if you are going to patch it. It has rosters, gameplay fix, and everything that makes the game realistic and good

06 has NBA Live PC Project
07 has SUM (Supreme Update Mod)
08 has the recently released TUP (Total Update Project).

EDIT: Is there a way to bock down in 06 with the keyboard?

End of any racist discussion.

I made a few AIACTs for 06 that disable the FSS if you want that and if you use a program or make a custom config file that binds the analog features to keyboard keys then yes you can backdown on the keyboard

07's issues were fixed by an official patch as well as aiacts that pdub made

08 has more issues than 07 with the lackadaisical defense than you can run by without issue and an unconfigurable sim engine
Opinions are my own.

i just got 06 after having 08 for a while, and 06 totally walks over 08.
the gameplay is just better, more realistic.

and all the menus are easier to use. (e.g in dynasty mode in 08 why did they remove the "reorder roster" menu?)

06 all the way :D :D

They removed it in 07 and replaced it with a depth chart, then they removed that in 08, probably because HB studios messed it up somehow. I made a mod that brings either screen back to 08, but the cpu still overrides it when simulating.

I haven't yet played 06, but from the screens I have seen, it looks better than 08, but I like the Sigshots and a 2x jersey patch that I have in my copy of 08.

Best not to mention that, it's a sore point with all Live veterans.

Might have to re-fire up Live '06 & see what the mod is like & if it is still playable compared to newer console bball titles.

I don't know, given how old it is I think it still holds its own. It was the last of the good releases for PC...so far.
