Defensive strategy?

I am playing NBA Live 2006 for a long time, my offense is very good but defense is not that good and i think that maybe my defensive strategy has something to do with that, so i am starting this topic to see what is the best defensive strategy by your opinions?
Anyone who thinks he plays good defense, he can put what defensive strategy he plays and what defensive strategy he thinks is the best and try to explain why?
I hope that more experienced players will have time to help me with this one because i think its my weakest thing in this game?
Andrew, i hope you will also post you favorite defensive strategy, i would really like to know what it is?

Well, as a general rule I find that if defense isn't your strong suit you should control a post player on defense and guard one of the CPU's big men, especially in NBA Live 06 where point guards have a habit of getting into the lane quite easily given the opportunity. When it doubt, let the CPU battle it out on the perimeter and defend the paint, coming over to play help defense if need be or cleaning up on the boards. That's not to say you can't or shouldn't guard perimeter players yourself but if the CPU can do a better job of it, go that way.

It's not a bad idea to change up your defense through the game, sometimes you'll want to pressure the ball fullcourt and going to a zone can take away the drive and force the CPU to make the outside shot. Of course, the AI can be pretty deadly when forced to make the outside shot so it's not the be-all, end-all solution to your defensive problems. It's worth going to the double team as well but don't use it indiscriminately as players will get left open and they'll make you pay.

It's also worth going into the Defensive Matchups menu and setting the guarded level so that greater attention is paid to your opponent's top scorer(s) and that certain players are automatically double teamed and others aren't. Be mindful of the lineups the CPU is putting out on the floor though because your defensive matchup settings might not be appropriate when the CPU makes a substitution. Then it's time to go back in and adjust accordingly.

You're welcome. If you are defending on the perimeter, it's not a bad idea to use the "hands up" stance when closing guarding a player by holding up on the right stick (the defensive "crouch" stance isn't bad either) and playing physical defense, since bumping them is a good way to cut off the drive and get them out of position. Be wary of the quick shot as the shot clock winds down though.
