Championship celebration?

Well I play this game all the time, and I never got around to actually playing through a dynasty and winning the championship until now...

Is there no championship celebration in this game when you win the title? I played two seasons and it didn't go into one after either series clinching win. They used to be pretty good in 2003/2004 and then 05 was kind of truncated, but it was still there.

Maybe I've just overpatched my copy or does it not have one?

Nope, there's no celebration. Just a picture of the trophy.

There are cutscenes in NBA Live 06 when you win the championship where your players are celebrating and carrying the trophy. It's really easy to accidentally skip them though.

So far, I've never had that luxury of watching them celebrate though. Mav Albert will just congratulate the team on winning and sign off by posing the question if the team can repeat...

Are you sure that there are cutscenes in Live 06? I went back and played the 4th quarter of my championship game a few more times and still couldn't get a cutscene to come up. Does anybody know what .VIV files are used for the championship cutscenes? I don't know how I could be skipping them.

Positive, because I've used them in years past to create screenshots for the NBA Champions post on the main site and I've had it displayed in my Bulls Dynasty as well.

Yup, I see that now (I looked up your thread... fun dynasty by the way! I would have posted sooner but I lost track of time reading through it!

It must be one of my patches (I have the TNT patch) or a missing .viv file for the celebration. I'll have to compare my Live disc to my HD.

On a side note -- NBA Live 2003 in particular had the best championship celebration. I don't know why they made it so much shorter as time went on, as you think they would recognize that after playing a whole long playoffs and winning the title, it would be nice to have a fitting payoff.

I'm hoping someone at EA takes note of this. Hopefully they saw the last NBA finals championship ceremony when KG made it particularly touching and memorable. I guess before I hope for that though, I better hope for a PC version!

You know, I wonder if I could copy the VIV file (if it is contained in one) from NBA Live 2003 into 2006 ... hmmm...

It's worth a try, we've been able to do some cool stuff by swapping files between games though it doesn't always work and sometimes the process is a little more involved (importing and exporting files, etc). Just make sure you have a backup first so you can easily restore the 06 files.

Has anyone identified what file it is that controls the animations of the championship celebration? I've looked through the program files and can't figure out which one it could be.

it can be replaced with other live's, or even the March Madness versions of the game

You're the king! Thank you very much. I want to replace it with NBA Live 2003 celebration, as its the most epic and dramatic one so far. It's a perfunctory thing in the later Live's, which is a shame after playing through a dynasty for so long!

Now I just have to go dig my NBA Live 2003 CD out of storage... it's a good thing I label my boxes!

make sure you backup, maybe even manually inject the 03 files into the 06 ones with biggui because there are a lot more cutscenes in 06 than in 03

Well I have run into a bit of a snag.

I opened the NBA Live 2006 xscripts.viv file in BigGui and was able to find this entry:

EOG_FINAL_TROPHY_L_1.0 - 0X003CD000 72,096
There are also several others with somewhat descriptive names.

I opened up the NBA Live 2003 xscripts file and found lots of entries, but none of them have descriptive names.

Each filename is designated by a number (such as 00000049.o or 00000050.abk). The 06 version has similar files, but as mentioned it also has several with descriptive file names instead of this numbering convention.


How would I go about identifying which one of these is the championship celebration in Live 03? I'm a little new to this (obviously) but is there a tool that will let me view these files in action or does anybody know which reference is for the championship celebration?

i doubt anyone knows, I think pdub and I were the only 2 people that knew where the cutscenes were located.

matter of elimination I guess. and that is assuming that the 2003 cutscenes work

Well crap! LOL. Well when I get a chance, I will sit down with it and start making attempts! Could take awhile, there are a lot of entries -- but at least the 2003 file is about half as large as the 2006 file.
