Beta Roster v0.2

Talk about NBA Live 06 here.

Beta Roster v0.2

Postby Andrew on Tue Nov 11, 2008 8:26 pm

I was intending the next release to be the complete package but I'd like to do some additional roster and installation testing first.

Download

Once again, this beta does not come with any art; that is still being compiled. However, this beta does include Pdub's latest custom aiact.viv file.

What I'm looking for in this beta:
  1. ANY players whose dunk package is wrong. I've made a mass update on this beta but I think the dunk packages could stand to be improved. I'm looking for a complete list of players you think need to have different dunk packages, especially smaller players who dunk too often or attempt the wrong kind of dunks.
  2. ANY players who Freestyle Superstars moves aren't working properly. Again, I'd like a complete list of people you're having trouble with so I can fix them up. I think pretty much everyone should be working but I might have missed fixing up a couple of players.
  3. Both of the above points apply to Legends as well. Absolutely anyone in the game who you think should have a different dunk package or whose FSS isn't working properly, please let me know.
  4. If you have problems with the installation not finding the correct folder, please let me know:
    • Whether you're running Windows XP or Windows Vista
    • Whether or not you've installed the game to the default folder (C:\Program Files\EA Sports\NBA Live 06)
    • The exact error message you get
  5. Any other crashes, weird behaviour or problems except ratings, extra features or missing artwork just yet. If we have the foundation right, we can build on it.

Thanks guys. Remember, anything you see that's wrong, any players whose FSS isn't working properly or is dunking when they're not supposed to or never dunks, please let me know so I can fix it up. :)

I will look at doing a 2005 conversion when I've got the NBA Live PC rosters in order, until then I've kind of got my hands full.

I thought that might be the case, which is why I said:

Andrew wrote:I'd like a complete list of people you're having trouble with so I can fix them up.

Without listing the players so that I can fix them, it's not very helpful. ;) The whole reason I released the beta was so that you guys could test it out and help track down the players whose FSS still isn't working properly so I can fix it, which will save me a lot of time while I'm working on other things to get the full mod released.

i just have tried FSS moves of some players, in my analysis,

POWER and HIGHFLYER is not usable i guess.....

OUTSIDE scorer well in some players it worked but in others dont.. cant use it on kobe and AI, while switching T-mac and d.wade from highflyer, which is not working, to a scorer yes it worked.. no problem with the others i tried

SHOOTERS and INSIDEscorer not having problem so far

PLAYMAKER and STOPPERS
havent tried it yet coz i'm doing it in a practice mode...

1st few players that i have tried:

D.Wade
K.Bryant
L.James
Shaq
A.Stoudemire
M.Redd
P.Stojakovic
Y.Ming
T.Duncan
T-Mac
Iverson
Melo
J.Johnson
Dirk
Arenas

Sorry but really dont have the time yet to test them all, maybe next time in my day off... hope this helps...

I can appreciate that, just letting me know the players you have tried goes a long way in helping me compile a complete list. :) That's very strange though as I've tested some of those players and they should be working. I may need to reset everyone's FSS ability and have the game assign them again, especially if it's reverting to the problems when you change the FSS type. Anyway, thanks for the report.

While testing I noticed a strange thing with the Outside Scorer FSS. Some moves work correctly but some don't. The Shoot and Pro Hop button work fine but the Pass and Dunk button FSS moves are not working. Highflyer indeed is not working. Playmaker and Inside Stopper are working.

I've found the same thing, though I seemed to have fixed it. I'm now thinking I'll need to blank everyone's FSS moves and then have the game recalculate and reassign them so that they work properly. It's definitely not an issue with the aiact.viv as it happens with the default file too.

Yep, i also tested the aiact.viv with other rosters and FSS is working fine with those rosters so it's not the aiact.
If you can fix it with recalculating the FSS moves it would be great. It will take some extra time but okay.

Btw can you please take another look at the players in your roster who are having FSS right now? Personally i think some players don't deserve FSS anymore while a few other players not currently in the list do deserve FSS. And maybe some players who already have FSS can have (an)other FSS.

Definitely, I'll take a look when they're done. It shouldn't be too difficult to fix though, batch files make mass edits a lot easier. :)

Only that I'm still working on it and need anyone who's got art to submit to please post it if they haven't already. I've been working on quite a few things the past few days (the Forum upgrade as I've mentioned was a huge job) and have been feeling under the weather to boot but I'm getting there.

Andrew, did you make any changes in the roster since the release of this beta?, just wondering because i am about to start a sim league and i want to know if it safe to start editing the roster or if i should wait more time.
I dont need the roster right but i probably will in 10 days (~) so i could start changing some overalls and adding some legends. :P

That's generally something you'd control with the sliders rather than the ratings.

No changes yet but I'll be resetting all the FSS abilities to try and fix them up and there are some transaction and lineup changes I need to make.

For the official release, are you planning to edit ratings and add players besides changes in lineups? You know why i ask.

For v1.0? I don't know. Depends how quickly I can get a stable release done that updates the current NBA.

Some good news on that front though. I reset everyone's FSS abilities via the dbf (ie qualified FSS and active FSS attributes to 0) and then used Edit Player to recalculate Dwyane Wade's ratings and re-assign FSS abilities. Everything then worked fine when I tried using Wade in Practice Mode, switching between FSS movesets also worked without any problems, so hopefully that's nailed the problem and I can just force the game to recalculate and re-assign for everyone else.

The problem was likely invalid VALIDSSTAR values that work in 08 and 07 because those games support multiple FSS movesets being active whereas 06 only supports one at a time. The previous method I tried obviously didn't reset them properly but this method seems to do the trick. I think I'll release another beta roster very soon just to make sure I've ironed out those problems and I'll compile a list of required art so we can put together the full package.

I'd recommend that. I've gone through the dunk packages again and there are definitely some that can stand to be fixed; some of the ones I've assigned to smaller guards who dunk occasionally definitely were not suitable in v0.2. Depending on how the next beta works out you might even want to wait for a stable release but hopefully the next beta will be fine from a roster standpoint, just lacking the art files.
