Stealing on PS2

Postby novorua on Sun Jun 25, 2006 11:40 pm

Hey guys, I am glad I found this forum. I am not sure if most of yall play on PC, but I was wondering if someone could give me a few tips on stealing the ball when I play online on PS2. I just get so pissed when the guy I play can steal the ball all the freakin' time. Any tips/advice? Thanks.

Online right when they do a long pass you have to use your best stealer and use freestlye steal when they first catch the pass. I always held L1 and used the right analog to try and steal.

I am sort of new to this awesome game, but how exactly do you do a freestyle steal? If you hold down L1 then its known as freestyle? I just only use the square button. Right analog to steal? I never use it. Which way do you move it to steal it? Do I have to hold down L1 to steal better? Can I do L1 and square? Have I confused you yet? lol.

Also, is there anyway to protect yourself from others stealing the ball away from you? Thanks for the help btw.

Well if a player is a defensive stopper which you can tell by the icon underneath the player and a messge on the screen L1 and square makes you do good steals, but L1 and the right analog in the direction of the ball handler will do pretty good steals without fouling as much. you can do L1 and square for basicaly any player. If you hold the right analog stick down with the ball you back down or put your back to the basket so that could protect the ball.

Icon underneath the player? What icon? And what message on the screen? "Off ball"? Sometimes a circle shows up in the court for a second, what does that mean? You're talking about PS2 right?

So you're saying if a player is going forward with the ball and I want to steal it, then I move the right analog stick to the right, correct?

the logo is like a hand underneath the player. If a player is running toward you push the right analog in the way the player is ccoming towads.

I would like to throw in some of my tips about stealing the ball:
The best time to try to freestyle steal the ball is when it is not being crossed over,"protected" or when the player picks up his dribble. You will most likely get a reach-in foul. So strike when the player is dribbling the ball(better when they are moving sideways) and when they just received the ball from the inbound pass. Once you master these tips you can move on to the steals that are game-changing but are more riskier.

Lets say you cant stop your opponents jumpshot because he does a a a pump fake to throw you off and then shoots it. Once he does the pump-fake, the ball is open and you can do your freestyle steal to snatch it. But be careful, you have to time it right because if you dont he can pull up for a shot and you can get hit with a reach-in. Like I said, these steals require timing and practice. Another "game-changing" steal is when they are driving up for a dunk or lay-up. Lets say they are a high-flyer scrub. You cant stop his high-flyer. When he starts his high-flyer gather, swipe at the ball once he starts to jump. He should do an emotion where he is in mid-air but the ball get stolen and looks like a foul but its not. This is the hardest steal to time and if you dont you WILL get hit with an AND1  . All these steals can disrupt your opponents game-plan.

Yeah I played NBA LIVE 206 online alot but I quit because almost everyone knows these tips now and its impossible to get a shot off unless you use become a special scrub.
