Crashing in menu!

Postby Dimes on Mon May 22, 2006 5:36 am

I can play the game just fine... If I can get into it. The game keeps crashing in the menu screen. Turns black and I have to do a hard re-boot. I can play Oblivion and Fear and heck well everything else. I have never ever had a game crash in a menu screen before. I took the game back and exchanged it thinking it was a bad disk but the same thing happend. I have re-installed a bunch of times. Could it be a driver issue? I am really all out of ideas, I don't understand how I can play the game without crashing but there is something in the menu screen thats doing it. I dont have any patches installed so I'm really confused here. Here are my specs.

AMD FX-55
BFG Geforce 6800 GT
2gigs Corsair XMS 3200
Abit AV8 socket 939
Gateway FPD2185W monitor

Hm, very odd indeed.

Well, first off would be the obligatory patch question, and I know you already said you don't have any patches installed, but just have to make triple-sure. No roster patches, not one single graphics patch? Okay, then.

Second, clear your temporary internet files. In older versions of live, this worked absolute wonders for me, not just during saving, but once it also somehow fixed the problem of the names on my jerseys not appearing. <shrug>

Third, download, install, and run these two programs, if you don't have them already.

http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-D ... 22137.html

Spyware can 'piggyback' onto any program on your computer, and crash it as a cover for it 'connecting'. I don't fully understand it, but these stupid spyware hacker people are amazing.

Also run whatever virus scanner you have, if you don't have one, there's a free one available here:
http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus- ... 20142.html

It's not great, but it's far better than nothing, if nothing is what you have.

Also, either updating or rolling back your video/audio drivers might help.

I'll trade you my video card (GeForce 5700 LE) for you video card (GeForce 6800 GT). ;) My video card works fine with NBA Live 06. :) I wish I had a 6800, those are badass.

Thanks for the replies I'll try it out. Yea it is very odd indeed. I've never had a game crash on me in menu screens before. I wish I could play but I can't even get into a season yet without having to reboot my computer.
