Talk about NBA Live 06 here.
Thu May 18, 2006 8:02 am
Hey Andrew, I wonder if you had any attempts to create any custom teams for 06. All the "year-end award" teams (from NBA.com) had been announced, and I wonder if you (or anybody else who knows roster editing)can either add these teams (as custom teams) to your roster, or send me the dbf info so I can import them to create these teams. So here are the teams (along with their lineup order):
All-Rookie:
C - Andrew Bogut, Milwaukee
PF - Channing Frye, New York
SF - Charlie Villanueva, Toronto
SG - Deron Williams, Utah
PG - Chris Paul, New Orleans
6 - Danny Granger, Indiana
7 - Raymond Felton, Charlotte
8 - Luther Head, Houston
9 - Marvin Williams, Atlanta
10 - Ryan Gomes, Boston
All-Defensive:
C - Ben Wallace, Detroit
PF - Andrei Kirilenko, Utah
SF - Ron Artest, Sacramento
SG - Bruce Bowen, San Antonio
PG - Kobe Bryant, L.A. Lakers
6 - Jason Kidd, New Jersey
7 - Tim Duncan, San Antonio
8 - Chauncey Billups, Detroit
9 - Kevin Garnett, Minnesota
10 - Marcus Camby, Denver
11 - Tayshaun Prince, Detroit
All-NBA:
C - Shaquille O’Neal, Miami
PF - Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas
SF - LeBron James, Cleveland
SG - Kobe Bryant, L.A. Lakers
PG - Steve Nash, Phoenix
6 - Chauncey Billups, Detroit
7 - Dwyane Wade, Miami
8 - Ben Wallace, Detroit
9 - Elton Brand, L.A. Clippers
10 - Tim Duncan, San Antonio
11 - Shawn Marion, Phoenix
12 - Yao Ming, Houston
IR1 - Allen Iverson, Philadelphia
IR2 - Carmelo Anthony, Denver
IR3 - Gilbert Arenas, Washington
If anybody is willing, then good luck. Thanks!

If I have some time on my hands, I will try it again like last year, exept I'll get it done.

I won't be adding any custom teams to the rosters (I'm still not sure whether I'm done with the current rosters for this year yet) but it is possible, using the same method as last year.
Fri May 19, 2006 7:37 am
Andrew, will you still attempt to do it (just to be sure that this is possible)?
And if either of you becomes successful, can you just send me the dbf info so I can just do simple "copy & paste" into the existing roster dbfs?

As I said, it is possible using the same method as last year. I might be able to do it but right now I'm really burned out on roster patching for NBA Live 06. It's been a real chore this year with the Primacy ratings being recalculated everytime a new player is created. I might be able to add the teams with dummy players and send it to you to fill in, if that helps.

Yes, that's what I mean when I said that you can send me the dbf info to copy/paste. So let's try that and see what happens.

Done. Download
here.
It's v1.08 of the NLSC roster with the three teams added. All teams use the 90s All-Stars art and are filled with dummy players (all called Roster Player). There's also an extra Roster Player on the Free Agents, he can be deleted. The game will crash if you try to play a game with two custom teams but appears to work fine if an original team faces off with a custom team. I'm not sure how to fix that, if anyone has any ideas let me know.
The best option as far as art and jerseys is concerned is probably to create a complete set of custom art for those teams and change their team abbreviation (the pointer to the art files) accordingly, since we can unfortunately no longer assign specific jerseys to players.

I'm sorry Andrew. After I copied the players to the teams, the game crashes when I go to reorder rosters. I even set the PLAYERID, TEAM, and ROSTERPOS values accordingly, and there are still problems. So can you please resend the roster zip file, but this time with all the players copied to their respective teams (no more roster players please) and tested properly?
As for the artwork, I already made a request for that just after I started posting this thread. You can find it here:

Sorry, but I don't have the time or the energy right now to create the 36 players you want. With the rosters I've provided, all you need to do is edit the Roster Players into the actual NBA players by overwriting their data in players.dbf and appearance.dbf. It's all set up, you just need to edit the dummy players as everything's already in place. I've tested it and it all worked without any problems (except custom team vs custom team, which still crashes and I have no idea how to fix that).

SH*T! I forgot about editing the appearance.dbf! Well, I've done that, and now everything is fixed (except for the crash and the artwork that you were talking about earlier). So thanks for that. If you wish, I can send you the newly modified info. Just tell me where to send it.
I would also like to add coaches for these teams. So can you please add the following coaches to these teams:
All-NBA - Avery Johnson, Dallas (Coach of the Year)
All-Defensive - Mike D'Antoni, Phoenix (1st Runner-Up)
All-Rookie - Flip Saunders, Detroit (2nd Runner-Up)
So thanks a lot Andrew, and good luck on finding a fix for that crash.

No joke my friend! Check out the award winning results at NBA.com.

I've modified coaches.dbf accordingly, you can just overwrite the one I originally included in Custom.zip. Download it
here.

Alright, thanks. And you know something? Just by curiosity, I re-attempted the "custom team vs. custom team" game. And can you believe it? The game loaded SUCESSFULLY with NO CRASHES. So I have to say that adding coaches to the custom teams INADVERTEDLY fixes the "custom team vs. custom team" problem. So try that for yourself and tell me if this is true or not.
Also, what about sending the new info (in zip form) to you? How can I do that?

That's OK, I don't really need it. Thanks all the same.
I've figured out what was causing the crash, it was actually quite simply. Until I just modifed coaches.dbf, there was no entry for the coaches for those custom teams. Apparently that musn't matter when one of the teams is an original team with a coach in coaches.dbf but the game will crash when it tries to load two teams that don't have an entry. With that coaches.dbf file I've provided above, that error shouldn't occur anymore.
So now it's just a matter of getting customart in there. Once that art is in place in the sgsm folder with unique abbreviations you can edit teams.dbf to change the pointer to the art files.

OOPS! I've edited my last message while you posted your last message. And WHAT? You too figured out that crash problem as well? AMAZING! Anyways, you can read it if you like. Sorry for such bad timing of my edited of message.

No worries, the thought just occurred to me after realising I'd missed a step when creating the teams in the first place.

The new custom teams worked fine when the new dbf info is inserted in the "Custom" roster save group. However

there's still a problem when I tried to paste the new info into another roster save group. It was ok until I get to the jersey selection in "Play Now" mode. Here the jersey selection is "LOCKED". I wonder what else had you done to had this problem fixed.

I haven't encountered that one before. Did you copy all of the modified files: players.dbf, teams.dbf, teamgear.dbf and coaches.dbf?
Thu May 25, 2006 7:40 am

OH! I didn't know that teamgear.dbf was to be editied as well. Ok, now I've edited all dbfs, and now everything is alright in game. Thanks again!

No worries, glad to help.
