Mike James's Dribbling?

Thu May 11, 2006 11:40 am

As a lot of you already know, Mike James had a very good statistical season. However, when I checked his ratings today, I noticed that his dribbling was quite subpar at 73. I find it hard to believe that an elite PG can be that bad at dribbling. However, I realize the policy of not increasing ratings for the sake of increasing them (and I completely agree with that). So, for anybody who has seen a decent amount of Raptors games, can you please give a judgement of how good James is at handling the ball in comparison to other elite PGs? :?

He's great at handing the ball. I'd say it should be at least 80. Unfortunately, he does it too much. :shake:

I'd definitely be open to that since 73 is a bit low for a primary ballhandler.

73 is adequate considering Mike James is not an ankle breaker by any means. Yes, he brings the ball down the court but he has never shown a nasty crossover, he has never shown he can dribble behind the back in transition and he's a decent ballhandler compared to the elite pg's.

He has the same handles as Calderon. 80 is too much.

For that matter, Calderon's current dribbling rating is a shockingly bad 65? Is he that bad at handling the ball?

Would you say that a dribbling rating in the mid-high 70s would be good for these two guys, or do you think their current ratings are fine?

Just because James may take bad shots and has many haters, that doesnt mean he cant dribble. The guys you speak of usually have dribbling in the high 80's, they are playmaker kind of guys, mike james isnt a great playmaker, hes is a good dribbler. You dont see Ben Gordon pull off moves like that all the time but when he was interviewed on the sidelines during the rookie sophomore game he was sitting down dribbling the ball like we could only wish to do. He took short little dribbles faster than i've seen before and he was crossing over between, behind, and in front of his legs all while focusing on the conversation he was having with the interviewer. I'm sure Mike James has had to do a lot more ball handling that Ben Gordon so i think a dribbling rating in the low 80's or at least high 70's is deserved.

Mike James should be deleted on the next roster patch.

Mehhhhh I mean... I agree. He's a ballhog but he can handle the damn thing.

Calderon's is quite low at 65, I agree that can come up into at least the 70s.

73 is adequate. He has never been an ankle breaker in his whole career in the nba. His dribbling has nothing to do with taking bad shots so i dont see why you should bring that up. Im not saying he cant dribble either, i said 73 is adequate because there has never been anything special about his ballhandling his whole career.

Ben Gordon has broken ankles in college and has showcased his handles in the NBA.

Im sure raptors fans and pistons fans know what im talking about. I've been following James ever since he torched the lakers in the NBA finals.

As a rockets fan I can tell you he does have handles. Ive seen him cross over Derek Fisher, Kirk Hinrich, to say hes only an adequate dribbler is an injustice.

And to Laker Socks dribbling is a perimiter players greatest weapon, its how they create scoring oppertunities for himself/teammates. And 71 is too low for a guy who only avg 2.6T.o. a game and avg 20ppg and close to 6ast. While we are on the subject of ball handling could you review Shaun Livingstons rating not sure what hes rated, but he is arguably the best ball handler in the nba next to nash. A rating in the 80's would be right for him.

I find it hard to imagine Shaun Livingston or Steve Nash handle the ball better than rafer alston or allen iverson. Rafer alston is skip to my lou for god sakes, his dribbling should be in the 90s

Noted.

Mike James is a great dribbler, to say that he isn't proves that you don't watch him play, or you hate him. I don't like him but man, the guy can dribble. He deserves at least 80.
