Year 1 best draft picks

Postby jonnyboy261 on Mon May 08, 2006 8:10 am

I know alot of you have played many years thru your dynasties, and was wondering which comp generated rookie i should pick in the draft.

im looking for a center preferable above 7 ft.
also it cannot be too early of a draft pick like top 10 but i wanna no who turns out good and grows to be like a superstar.

thanks for the help!

do some scouting (a good scout is always good if you plan to bring in some youth), scout players who's developing potensial is good or exellent

This is what you do.

Save your game, Simulate until the rookies are selected in the offseason, Dont save and go back to your regular dynasty.

This way, you can check out all the rookies and what they are rated. Works for me.

I've noted this a couple of different places that I think the rookies are all generated randomly after each year, so the same player probably wouldn't (except by chance) appear in more than one dynasty.

Unless I'm wrong.

Yeah simming ahead a season works a little bit, but the ratings wont always be the same I have found. I've seen them vary as much as 15 points one way or the other. :S Somewhere on here someone posted where you can find the upcoming rooks ratings in the dbf files. But I'm pretty sure those aren't set in stone, they have a +- range on them.

Why are you still asking after several people confirmed that players are random?

Yeah, the names are randomly generated. My favorite player so far from drafting is Max McGrady (I know, kickass name).

Peter Splitter, thats great

What is the highest overall player you've ever drafted?

I drafted a 7'5'' Lithuanian Center who was 75 overall, he started the all star game his rookie year and of course won rookie of the year, after his first season he was 73, then he went down to 71, then stayed in the high 60's for the rest of his career and was never an all star after his rookie season. It bummed me out.

Silas, that is why you go to the .dbfs and do a little editing of the destiny/work ethic/learning categories to ensure that doesnt hapen. ;)

lol, i could now, that was way back when the game first came out, i've only learned about .dbf editing like 5 months ago, back then i couldn't edit, and even if i could have i wouldn't have, it takes away from the realism, though i'm not sure that entire situation was realistic.

my best draft has been Vic Townsend and some 7'0 guy called Yoruba. Townsend has become a great all-round player and developed several different superstar ablities whilst Yoruba has become a great defender and inside scorer

I had Thandiwe Mbembe, at the 1 year offseason. He was 7'0 defensive orientated center. With some training he reached 90 ovrl at the 7 year of the Dynasty

Except for Isidore Snow in Live '06  I would recommend, if you find ANY Center that's 7'3 or more, SNAG HIM! I would just plowing through the rosters of my 2021 dynasty and noticed that to have one of these type of centers is extremely rare...

That's why I snagged up Thomas Goldberg when I could...
