This doesn't belong in NBA Talk. Moving up to the NBA Live 06 section.

Various issues stand in their way, if it's not a legal roadblock (ie official retirement papers, not being in the retired players union etc) then it could be financial. Assuming there are no legal roadblocks, Michael Jordan is free to name his price and that might be more than EA is willing to shell out for one player. That said, I'm a Jordan fan so I'd like to see him back in the game on the Legends roster, not to mention all the other players who have retired in recent years and can now no longer be included.

All the more reason for a Shawn Kemp comeback in real life. They'd be able to squeeze him into the 90s All-Stars again.

even if EA didn't add Mj to the game they should hide the necessary commentary files so it would be easy to add MJ into the game with patching. but of course on the consoles it is impossible or very difficult and frustrating that way.

No one has them old ass 50's through 80's bastards still signed and they are still on here.

Its Jordans fault really he needs to take that crap out of his contracts. Give something back to the people that made him rich. Sure he was the best but if no one watched him then he would be the best without a penny instead of a multi millionare.

I bet its still that crap way back from Jordan VS Bird.. Least I read it was awhile back.

I am guessing Live has to pay extra for him and sometimes he just can't be covered after they pay everything else.

Much as I'd like to see him in the game as a Legend because he's my favourite player...he doesn't owe his fans an appearance in a basketball video game. And that's assuming he's holding out for more money and it's not anything to do with any other legal roadblocks (like being in the retired player's union) that are preventing his inclusion.

so all retired players have to give consent to be in the game? so guys like wilkins and dr j said that it was ok but pippen jordan and kemp said no?

That's correct, but some details are still unclear. The issue of those players not being in the retired player's union has also been brought up as a possible stumbling block to getting them in the game as Legends. But then again, Michael Jordan signed independently back in 1999 to appear in NBA Live 2000 (which ran through to 2004) so who knows.

We'll probably never get a definitive answer because EA Sports probably aren't at liberty to divulge the exact circumstances surrounding each of the former greats who are missing.

That's right. They can include the shoes, they can mention Michael Jordan's name in the commentary but they can't include him as a player in any way, shape or form. Possibly as a dummy player that we can edit, but I'm not certain of that. Perhaps not, since they haven't done it.

ricky ponting's cricket game had that problem. the only licensed player was ricky ponting. the rest of them were caricatures, and named things like justin lunger.

Sounds like that basketball game ages ago with "Micky Jordun", "Scott Pip", "Shackle O'Deal" and "Larry Fowl".

In Live 2001, we could edit the Legends rosters on console...I have no idea why they stopped including that.

I have the depressing feeling that as the years go on and more players retire, it'll be more and more expensive to keep the legends rosters together and the feature will eventually be taken out of the game. :(:(

I can't recall now. I don't think it was a 5 on 5 sim, probably an unlicensed three point shootout game or something. Obviously not a noteworthy game.

It is a shame, but if it's getting to the point where it's really watered down it might for the best if the Legends are taken out...or only included in the Legends Pool rather than the thinness of the roster being exposed in the Decade All-Star teams.
